Not hard to do with a horrible year on broadway. Jersey Boys is the only show to open this season that can be considered a hit.

re: John Lloyd Young Is Your Best Choice

yeah Juke Box musicals get Tony Noms
mama mia, All shook up etc,
I wish Him no Harm
but a vocal impersanation is not Tony material
or that guy from Movin Out would have Won
He was great

Patti Lupone has my vote.
"Carson has combined his passion for helping children with his love for one of Cincinnati's favorite past times - cornhole - to create a unique and exciting event perfect for a corporate outing, entertaining clients or family fun."

"In Oz, the verb is douchifizzation." PRS
Uh...it's NOT just a vocal impersonation. He is a great actor...
As far as acting goes I'm indifferent. He doesn't have a ground-breaking role. There is nothing particularly special about his acting.

"JYL has a very difficult singing part. His performance as Frankie Valli brings down the house! He WILL win a Tony."

He was excellent in the role, but if he wins the 2006 best actor Tony, I will be very upset.

The nominees will likely be:
John Lloyd Young
Michael Cerveris

and possibly...
Josh Strickland
Harry Connick Jr.
Hugh Panaro

Without having seen Tarzan, Pajama Game or Lestat yet, I think Michael already has the award.

yes, Stephen Lynch...I knew I was forgetting someone. Thanks. He will probably get a nomination over one of the others.

re: John Lloyd Young Is Your Best Choice

There still are a lot of shows still to come, but I do think John Lloyd Young stands a good shot at the Tony, even over Cerveris. Cerveris received very good reviews, but I think Young got breakout notices. Cerveris also won a Tony for Assassins fairly recently, so that will work against him, whereas the voters may want to award Young for being a newcomer, as well as the charismatic center of a show that took everyone by surprise.
Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end: then stop.

Is there a requirement to coninually update my profile? I re-did my profile after having just seen Seascape. I've seen several other shows since then which also don't appear on it.

re: John Lloyd Young Is Your Best Choice

I saw the show twice actually. I absolutely *love* the score and I listen to the cast recording A LOT. (heard it on the train this morning) I am kind of upset that I didn't like the show because when i walked in the theater to see it the second time, I really wanted to love it.

re: John Lloyd Young Is Your Best Choice

While I was very impressed with Lloyd Young, I have been lucky enough to see performances like that before in smaller "hits", what Cherry Jones did in DOUBT was really something. She got my vote. Fortunately for both, there's no competition bt them for a Tony.

re: John Lloyd Young Is Your Best Choice

I think what's most impressive is that JLY is on that list. Look at the other performers Bway.com chose - either theater legends (Jones, Fierstein, Rivera) or big names (Turner, Applegate) or established breakout stars (Butz). JLY's the least well known and it's his very first appearance on Bway. That is HUGE. And I don't see Michael Cerveris on that list...

JLY's a lock for a Tony nomination, if only based on Ben Brantley's love letter. Who wins the award is always up for grabs and has a lot to do with politics.

re: John Lloyd Young Is Your Best Choice

I voted for Norbert, but JLY was a close, close second.

I keep raving about Jersey Boys, not just JLY, but the entire cast. However, I tell people they are missing out if they don't see Norbert in DRS. Priceless performance.

Less than six hours left to cast your vote.
It looks like the voting is coming down between John Lloyd Young, Norbert Leo Butz, and Cherry Jones.
