I got lucky with the insanely competitive digital rush today and caught the matinee.
Having been 9 when the first Bill and Ted out, I was super excited to see the two of them together in a way I wouldn't normally be about seeing celebrities. That was the vibe for much of the audience. For example each time Didi and Gogo hug, there's a very literal "awwww..." coming from the audience, in a way that felt very specific to the actors and their decades long bromance.
I had never seen Waiting For Godot staged before, so I don't know how it hits when done well, but this wasn't it. The production isn't horrible, but the dialogue is intentionally very repetitive and a few times I caught myself zoning out. I don't always agree with Jamie Lloyd's directing decisions, but this was the first time I saw one of his productions and thought he's bringing nothing additive to the material. Nothing new is revealed in the repetitions.
The rush seat was orchestra Row N, Seat 14. Directly in front of the seat was a curtain, but the play is staged so exclusively center stage it wasn't really a problem. It was way less of an issue than when I had a similar rush ticket for A Doll's House.
