WAR HORSE To Close 1/6/13

"Are you certain THE NANCE is coming in? Seems like an odd choice of venue for a play like that. Sure, you have a subscriber base, but Nathan Lane is a big enough name to not need to rely on season ticketholders to get a sales boost."

Lincoln Center doing the play in the spring has been public knowledge for some time, so I'm not sure where your comments about relying on subscribers for a show with Nathan Lane are coming from. Even so, how is The Beaumont an "odd choice of venue for a play like that"?

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

Before this turns into a "somethingwicked tries to prove he's right" thread, I happened to be at War Horse tonight (third time overall, second on Bway) and I have to say the show is in remarkable shape, and it's still and stirring and beautifully performed as ever. Not many plays nowadays can claim such a great long-term run, and at least the West End is still a continual sell-out four years later.

I found it to be one of the best Broadway experiences of my life. And I'm sure the tour will be extremely successful.

I'm aware that Lincoln Center wanted to produce it in the Spring, but I didn't think it would be at the Beaumont. A friend who read a draft of the script described it as a small show, so I figured they would take the Lyceum or the Golden. The Beaumont doesn't have that many more seats, but the venue can feel large and distant for an intimate comedy.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

What are the chances this will be filmed for Live from Lincoln Center?

I bought season tickets for the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center here in Charlotte, and War Horse comes through May 28th -June 2nd 2013. I'm glad I'll get a chance to see this.

That's right, kidd. And that would be the first time someone was wrong in the history of BWW

I tell y'all what - those darn people over there at the Lincoln Center and their darn changing of plans. I guess ill stop sharing news since this one time, it didn't work out like they wanted.

Golly, I sure am embarrassed.

You lied, Jordan. You lied! Go up to your room and think about what you did! Then say some hail Mary's and Praise Gylliths before your supper.

Lincoln Center is producing The Nance in a Broadway house, not the Beaumont. Too bad they didn't bring in The Iceman Cometh for the Beaumont, It would have looked great there. For the record, Butley did good business, and recouped in its limited run. November did well, and came close to recoupment. And before that, The Odd Couple was a huge financial success, although disliked by critics.

So glad I saw this last week. Agree with other posters, could have been 20 minutes shorter.

When I asked the "nice" usher about a possibility of this closing/moving she was not so "nice". Wonder if they knew something.

I will definitely be seeing this one again before it closes. War Horse was one of my favorite theater experiences! I thought it would last longer but this is a great run for a play or any show for that matter.

The Times confirms that THE NANCE will not play the Beaumont.

Well, it's been 48 hours since the press release and still no word from telecharge. And they're still selling through 1/26. Anyone else have tickets for those final two weeks heard from them?
