EthelMae, that would be the twist exactly. I also didn't think it was really a twist. I thought it was clearly established at the beginning what was happening and saw it more akin to [Title of Show], with the characters in the story telling their own stories while the larger narrative unfolds in real time.

Thx, guys. I re-read the posts here and have a clearer understanding in my mind. I still don't think the piece needed these "twists" and I don't need a playwright to spoon feed me, heck I'm seeing JOHN for my second time this weekend. The inmates stories alone moved me- like I mentioned- to tears. I think if they had even just stood up in front of music stands and read their stories, an audience would have been transfixed.

Has this been selling out? I'm hoping to do student rush one day
I'm excited to see this.
Slight side note, but my friends at The Interval did a great interview with Sherie about the show and her writing process, etc.: http://the-interval.com/ints/srs/
I was at Saturdays matinee, and it was not sold out. maybe at 75 or 80% capacity?
I dint think I can add much that hasn't been said. some of the performances were riveting.. As a whole, something is lacking. One, really hate the white girl making a difference in black peoples lives. UGH. I am simply not a fan of SRS. (Please don't flame me) to me she just doesn't come off as "real". Lastly, I just felt the twist, the ending was a device to show off being clever.
I certainly enjoyed it enough and could recommended it to some of my friends.
BTW, Got my tax through Today's fix just that morning.... between 10 & 11 when I learned I didn't win any online lotteries.
I saw this yesterday. I really enjoyed the play, but I was very perplexed by the ending. I thought all the performances were great. This was my first time seeing an Off Broadway show! I also used TodayTix and got a great seat, however, any seat in the theatre offers a great view for this production.

Answered my own question, I was able to get student rush tickets about an hour before a performance. No bad seat and a wonderful production.

We were at this performance as well. Row G, near the main side aisle, through TDF, and I agree with much of what dm611 said, although I like srs just fine. The performances of the "inmates" were excellent, and the ease with which they switched roles was most impressive. Now that I've read the Playbill.com article linked earlier in this thread I don't question how she got to write this story as much as I did before reading the article.
Saw it today and I thought it was ok. I tried to avoid the spoilers in this thread so I wouldn't ruin the show for myself, but just knowing there was a twist kind of gave it away anyway.
Possible sspoilers
When SRS enters the theater, she is wearing an orange jumpsuit. She immediately starts taking it off. I kind of figured out the ending from there. The ending doesn't make or break the show for me. I found the whole thing just ok. I am definitely driven by my emotions. I thought the inmates' stories could have been more compelling. I found one of the stories somewhat moving. I recently saw The Flick-which I loved and thought flew by. This felt twice as long. Overall, The acting was good and the guys do a great job shifting between characters. I'm going to read the playbill article. Maybe I'll appreciate it more. Btw... Got my ticket on TDF. Row A towards the side. The first row had a few open seats so the house manager had everyone slide down toward the center. Row A is practically on the stage. I felt like I was in the show.
