EDIT TO ADD: Yes, I know this is Jenna, David, and Carole's last weekend too. They are all fabulous and I wish them well. If you want to post about them here please feel free. If you're going to whine about my title you should probably start a new thread.
Anyone planning on going? Curious to know how many people show up being that it's Stephanie's last city. Below is info on the lotto and a link to dates and times of performances.

Posted: 2/23/06 at 4:35pmI don't think it matters that it's Stephanie Block's last city in the tour. 99.9% of the people seeing the show have no idea who she is, so I can't imagine the lottery is going to be that much more popular as a result.

Posted: 2/23/06 at 4:49pmGosh, 99.9% isn't exactly giving Pittsburgh theatre-goers much credit. She's had a year of shows and reviews and word of mouth to spread her name around with. I agree that most probably wont know her though but by the end of the show they wont forget her!

I actually know of several people who are flying in to try the lotto, and if can't get tix then just for the stagedoor experience. She has had quite the affect on people who have seen and or met her in the other states that she has performed.
Good luck to all who are taking that on. :)

Galilee, you can add me to that list, if i don't get lucky at lotto then can't wait to meet Stephanie at the Stage Door, coming in from Toronto!
Thanks Popular for posting this!!!! I was hoping no-one would show and I'd be a shoe-in!! Remind me to buy you a 'smart cocktail' some day!

Posted: 2/24/06 at 11:34amI was there last night, fantastic show! I had chills. Stephanie ROCKED! Even though I already had tickets... I went to check out the lottery. Not a ton, but a fair amount of people were there. Good seats, so consider on going!

Posted: 2/26/06 at 1:12pmThis is kinda off topic but I have not too great seats for a showing of Wicked in Chicago (row Z orch) over spring break and I was wondering if anyone has ever done the lotto even though they already have tickets for the show to try and get better seats?

Yes, you can still play the lotto even if you already have seats. Fair? Maybe not. But I figure if you're nice enough to sell the ones you have for face value should you win it kind of balances things out.

and here is a review from today's Beaver County Times and Allegheny Times (hey, I didn't make up the name!)...
"Block's voice is bold, brassy at times and pop-diva dramatic when need be. Her renditions of "Defying Gravity" and "The Wizard and I" are electric. She doesn't need to take center stage in any scene. She has it.
Those who have tickets for "Wicked's" two-week run at the Benedum will likely enjoy the show for any number of reasons.
If the performance is as well done as it was Thursday, no one will want to go home."

I just saw the show last time. This was the second time I had seen the show, the first was in NYC. Overall I had a great evening. There were a few problems. The first was that at time the set was very small compared to the Gershwin. Normally this would never bother me because I know that touring companies are much smaller than the actual show in NYC, but in "One Short Day" something seemed lacking. In the NYC production you feel like your on a journey to OZ. During this production you just seem to arrive there. The only other major disappointment was the begining.
The intro music did not have the big effect it should and the time dragon just seemed to collect dust up there. Its only true effect was that its eyes turned red. To me that was most disppointing.
Aside from that the show was great. Stephanie J. Block was just awesome. She made Soshana Bean look pathetic in the roll. I mean Stephanie sounded great and the audience, at leats around me, just connected to her. From her very first entrance she just seemed to win peoples hearts. Her voice was in top notch shape and it showed in "The Wizard and I", "Defying Gravity" and "No Good Deed".
Kendra was ok as Glinda. She seemed to annoy more people in the audience, then make people like her. She just at times seemed not to connect. But she did get the best laughs out of the evening.
David Garrison as the Wizard was great. I don't know there just isn't that much you can do with the role. Carole Shelly was not in last night. Her understudy was and she was great. The guy who played Fieyero was great. I liked him better than Norbert. Finally Nessa Rose was great, but Dr. Dillamond just connected with Elphaba in their scenes and when the audience sees him in Act II you could her the sympathy for him.
In short a great evening. I took my mother to see it and she loved it. She just kept saying, "I'll never be able to watch The Wizard of Oz the same way again." By the way Defying Gravity knocked the socks off this Pittsburh audience. I hope this helps.
