Is it's running time shorter than in London?
I read the book many years ago and loved it. I have tixs for the end of November.
Yes the book is phenomenal. Definitley excited to see a fresh adaptation!

I loved the book too! I thought I was the only one I knew who read it... PM me anytime you guys want to talk about the book.
And ddtruitt, leave 442namffug alone. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, right? RIGHT!?!?
Right!
Thank you Piazzaslight.
I'd love to talk about the book some time. Do you have tickets to the show?
Oh ddtruitt - I'm so sorry dear. Can I get you a Pamprin?
A Pamprin? ONE Pamprin? That would most certainly not suffice.

I saw the first preview last night as well. The show is phenomenal. It is a typical Webber score and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The scenic design was amazing! If this does not win best scenic design, then it is being robbed! The cast is superb as well as the plot. Maria Friedman and Michael Ball were also phenomenal. I waited for autographs last night and got EVERYONE in the cast! However, I did not get home until 1:30 AM and had to be up at 5:30 AM to catch a plane to FL where I am right now. I was in the last row of mezzanine and the show was sold out. However, the audience was dead tonight. I cannot wait to return on January 31st to see it again for Kids Night from 3rd row orchestra. Overall, the show is in great shape and will most definitely open to rave reviews.

I am so glad to hear things are going over well for WIW for the most part. This score is so lovely, the story is great and IMO it is Andrew Lloyd Webber's best show since Sunset Boulevard (though Phantom is by far my favorite).
My friend went. Said Friedman and Ball were both wonderful and that Ball and Cerveris will be battling it out to see who will win the Tony this year. She said she scenic design was incredible as were the costumes, sets, and orchestrations. The score was somewhat predictable with some really gorgeous melodies in there. Some songs were really beautiful while others were just...ehhhh...
She said she'd give it a B or B- and maybe **1/2 to *** stars. She said it will recieve mild to rave reviews depending on the critics' opinion on ALW as his music should be what carries the show (a la Phantom) but it falters constantly here.

So when will there be an official critic's review? After Nov. 17?
442namffug: I don't have tickets yet, but I'm planning to get them for around December. I'm getting the last row mezzanine seats for $25. Oh, and if ddtruit is bothering you, PM me.
Eganfan: Don't the majority of the critic's reviews come out in the paper the night after the show opens, or when it's frozen? Most likely after Nov. 17th.
If you go to www.danieltorres.net, a member of the ensemble and covering Walter Hartright. He has a journal that he just updated about the first preview, and it also talks about rehearsals and whatnot. Check it out.

Thank you, piazzaslight. I sadly do not live near NYC, thus no ready access to the NYC Times. That is why I asked.
Egan fan, you can access the NYTimes on line: www.nytimes.com They will likely have the review on line the day after the show opens.
You'd have to register to nytimes.com if you haven't yet...
Thanks to everyone who was there and posted their thoughts. I'm glad to hear it went well; I love the novel and the music and I can't wait to see the show in November!
I doubt Ball will be considered a lead actor for this somehow, so I don't think the Tony battle will be him and Cerveris. But who knows what that crazy committee will rule.
thanks for that link almostxfamous. i really like those journal entries! so interesting.

Whether his role is lead or supporting, Michael Ball seems a sure bet for a TONY nomination ( based on what I had seen in London). I am seeing the show a few times on Broadway when I get there next month
Not quibbling a nomination, merely the category. Both the main male roles in the show are problematic to categorise as they both spend large chunks of either act offstage. But if it were me doing the ruling, I would say Fosco is a supporting role.

In London, Michael Crawford was nominated for Best Performanace by a Featured Actor in a Musical, but I think you're right about the Tony committee.
If he's nominated in a supporting actor category, he has an extremely good chance to win.
np cathywellerstein. Daniel's amazing with his journal, and it's always updated with such wonderful entries. He will continue to update this as often as he can throughout the run, as he did Altar Boyz and his Sundance Institute program with the show Most Wanted.
I would really love to see him in the show, so I guess I want the guy who plays Walter to be out if/when I go see it.
