"I Feel Pretty"
I am glad that they did an English cut of this song. I have grown to love the Spanish version but the English sounds pretty good because I know the lyrics! lol. In some parts of the song, it sounds like what shouldn't be the final cut. It is choppy in Josefina's final note and it sounds like they messed up on the volume equalizer. It goes from somewhat soft to loud. Love it, though.
"Somewhere (Instrumental)" and "Tonight (Instrumental)"
The Tonight instrumental is basically karaoke... love the orchestra! And Somewhere sounds like it should be the ballet portion of the song except it says it's instr.
Love the orchestra and bonus tracks. Also the entire cast recording. lol.
Does anyone have the iTunes bonus tracks?
I bought the cast recording through the B&N website and I'm looking forward to hearing the bonus track but I find it really annoying that they only included the English "A Boy Like That" on iTunes and you have to buy the whole album to get it. It's ridiculous that you'd basically have to buy a digital version AND a hard copy to get both.
What sucks is that I'm more interested in "A Boy Like That" than in "I Feel Pretty" but I don't like buying digital recordings. Ugh.
Thanks for the review, I'm curious to hear what other people think about the English tracks.
ray- I feel the same way I love having a hard copy of a cd so not geting a boy like that is driving me nuts! Especially since it was the song I want the most.
Hearing the English version of "A Boy Like That" is the only thing that could make this album worthwhile. Other than that, what a disappointment. (I do love Karen and Josefina, however. Both sound gorgeous. As was expected.)
It just stinks that the best song is an album only number. I understand why they do it because they know some of us will buy it 2xs just for the extra tracks!
Yeah, I guess I am the dummy 'cause I went two ways out of three. I bought the Amazon exclusive w/ Playbill of the show and the B&N with the 3 bonus tracks. It was either have 2 bonus tracks (iTunes), 3 bonus tracks (B&N), or a Playbill (Amazon)... I took what seemed like more worthwhile. A new Playbill has been added to my collection of shows I haven't seen (lol) and three bonus tracks over two is just plain mathematics.
Yeah I would go that way to if I hadn't seen the show but I have...

This. I actually have a $25 iTunes gift card sitting in my account right now, but I just can't justify buying the *entire* cast recording again just to get "A Boy Like That" in English... even if it is the only bonus track I want. ugh.
I bought the digital copy. A Boy Like That in English is great, but the Spanish version is better, in my opinion.
If anyone feels like sending me "A Boy Like That" in English I could send you "I Feel Pretty" in English.
I wouldn't mind hearing the English versions if anyone is feeling generous.
Ditto.
Ditto here too.
me too!!!
::cough:: As do I! ::cough::
I love it how the Somewhere 'instrumental' still has a chorus singing at times..
I usually end up buying both...especially since itunes will sometimes release them before they are actually out.
However, since they were both coming out the same day I was hoping to only buy it once and then import it to my computer...
Such was not the case because I wanted all the songs, so I bought it twice!

Has anybody heard Jump and the English version of A Boy Like That yet? I have the B&N version too, but was wondering how those versions sounded, and if it's worth the purchase. Thanks!
I too wouldn't mind if anyone cared to share the extra songs from iTunes.
Grrrr. I'm enjoying the recording a LOT (well, except for Matt's warbling vibrato on the last note of "Tonight"), but I really don't wanna buy the iTunes version. I already have the B&N version.
Anyone mind sharing the iTunes tracks with me too?

It's too bad they couldn't have recorded the movie overture with that superb orchestra as a bonus track.
Having already bought the B&N CD, does anybody know if iTunes ever makes album-only tracks available as single download tracks in the future? I know there were some other album-only tracks for other show realease, but I had bought those CDs instead.
I'd love to hear the iTunes bonus tracks, but not sure if I want to shell out another $12 or so for the full WSS album. (sigh)
Any advice/insights...feel free to PM me if needed too.
I brought the iTunes version of the 'West Side Story' cast recording. The English 'A Boy Like That' is fantastic. Karen Olivo is an amazing singer as is Josefina. I love the Spanish version but it is refreshing to hear the original. I am so glad I brought the iTunes version for that song alone.

Doesn't hold a candle to either to OBC or OST recordings, sadly, and Matt and Josefina sound weaker on the recording than on stage, which is way odd.

I find the new Spanish versions of the songs to be addicting.
