I purchased the Waitress cast recording on Amazon music the other day, and unlike with iTunes, I didn't get the digital booklet that comes with it. I'm really only interested in the synopsis that is usually listed in the booklet. I know the movie, but can't place some of the songs, so if anyone would be willing to scan the page(s), or copy and paste it if they have the PDF version, it would be GREATLY appreciated!
It's not an iTunes/amazon things, some digital albums come with digital booklets, some not. Bright Star, Something Rotten, Finding Neverland... didn't have any either. Daddy Long Legs and Violet do. (just a random list of albums I bought that I know have or don't have them)
I assume it's a record label thing, but I don't know why you wouldn't include a digital booklet. They are all created digitally anyway to be printed out for the CDs, just include it as a pdf, it's (pretty much) no additional effort. I wish they all had one,
I wonder why some shows like "Waitress", and "School Of Rock" decide not to include "Digital Booklets" for Cast Recordings purchased from Amazon, or iTunes?
I noticed that Disney also doesn't include them for their releases such as "Aladdin" Cast Recording, or "Frozen" Soundtrack, but makes physical booklets included with the CD.
Now that less and less people are consuming music from CD purchases, and more from digital and streaming, wouldn't it make sense to include "Digital Booklets", whenever possible, for all releases?
It's really annoying when the show features new music, and you want the lyrics that are usually included in the booklet to follow along with.
Also, when there is no "Digital Booklet" the credits for the production information (musicians, singers, etc.) are difficult to find as well in a handy way.
Seems disrespectful to the people who make the recording to increasingly sell more and more digital downloads, with no information about its production.
Imagine if CDs were sold with no physical booklet, and just the CD in a sleeve.
There was a thread on this here a while ago. Apparently, generally speaking, only very specialized "record labels" do cast recordings these days, and those record labels generally use an intermediary company that prepares the digital files in the way that is required by Amazon and/or iTunes. Depending on the particular company and their relationship with the service team on Amazon and/or iTunes, this can result in there not being a digital version of the CD booklet. Sometimes, the digital booklet appears on Amazon and not on iTunes, or vice versa.
I realize that this may sound totally ridiculous, but it seems to be as frustrating for the CD producers and labels as it is for us. I have personally commented to Amazon, and they filed a feedback notice, but I have seen no change. More comments to Amazon may generate better results.
Try searching for the previous thread for more details.
I'd bet that divarobbie2 would have some good info about this, as his company designs digital booklets for OC albums (i.e., "Fiddler..." and "She Loves Me".
For what it's worth, whenever I don't have a digital booklet included, I get a lot of good info (actors' names, synopses, etc...) to enter into iTunes from Wikipedia.
