How is it reading into something that isn't there? It's PLAINLY there. The way you skew it makes absolutely no sense in context.
They are discussing why the play is a bad thing.
Why is it a bad thing, according to that statement?
* It makes fun of the people of Odessa
* It makes fun of things that shouldn't be made fun of (religion, alcohol abuse, divorce)
* It promotes homosexuality
That's hyper-sensitive and reading something into it that isn't there.
No, it's not. That phrase is part of a list of things that are all clearly meant to be negative things about the play and Tony Georges, and, as others have said, it's pretty much always used by anti-gay people.
Yes, RT, I see those as descriptive and not offensive.
The point is that the phrase "promotes homosexuality" is always attributed to someone who is anti-gay. It's not a phrase someone who is pro-gay (or neutral) would use in a non-facetious way. The author of the anti-Georges website uses it, so that's legitimate evidence that he's anti-gay. (Or, perhaps more likely, pandering to anti-gay people.)

And how do you handwave a pm calling me a "stupid submissive [d!cksvcking] queen" , nomdeplume? Or "idiot". Or "A$$hole", or "whore" or any of the other the names this young man has flung @ me for merely questioning his motives? Look over his history. I've been helpful if questioning until this latest thread, and received nothing but abuse in return.
It would be nice to check his facts, but he only links to his tinfoil hat-style website, and web searches turn up very little.
This will all be moot soon, no doubt. Sounds like the play is a dog, and the Minetta as been in trouble for years. The show will close, and life will move on. Whatever the facts of this case, it's a tempest in a teapot, of the he said/she said variety. Sue me for not automatically believing every word Robbie says when he offers little but repetitive vitriol.
Leave it to nomdeplume to take this madness to the next level of crazy.
Well, ghostlight, at least we have his assurance that he's "not angry."

I think we need to see the PMs, ghostlight. Time to post 'em!

I have removed "promotes homosexuality" from the website.
The comment "It makes fun of religion, divorce, alcohol abuse and promotes homosexuality" cam from an email I received from someone "working on the show." This was back when the show was about four hours long. In a follow-up email I was told "the Son was supposed to come out, but that was cut."
I think Travis (on his Blog) made it clear there are no references to homosexuality in the current version of the play. We can all be thankful there are no gays in this show because this it is about misery and the pathetic existence of a group of competing losers - we don't need "gay" in that crowd.
Again, I apologize if anyone misinterpreted my remarks as homophobic.
TO GhostLight2: Lighten up. I am all about promoting gay, living an out an open life and that's one of the main reasons I am in LA. I think the various crew members who have signed up to endorse their boss and sing his virtues are being rather "submissive." It's in their best interest to find out the truth by confronting Tony. I believe several of them are because one cast member sent an email requesting copies of the information we have gathered.
If I have offended you, I am sorry.

I just want to butt in and say that I, for one, just LOVE "stupid submissive [d!cksvcking] queens"
Thanks, Joe!
Yeah, lighten up, ghostlight! Who on earth could be offended by being called those names?

Guess what, nom? You don't get to decide whether or not something is homophobic. The way I don't get to decide that calling you a See You Next Tuesday isn't misogynistic, but merely a service I performing for the community.
Stupid Submissive D!cksvcking Queen was my favorite Abba song

I don't like nasty PMs sent to anyone, especially explicit ones.

Go ahead and post the PMs ghostlight2 - post my responses, too.
Anyone interested will see that you have misrepresented my comments to you and taken them out of context.
In those PMs I also apologized if I offended you. It was intended as a private response to you - you sent the first PM, but publish them if you want.

Reading posted PMs makes everything better! They are like enemas that way.

Make sure you have the right grade of maple syrup in that enema or it won't work right.

So I gather from what Robbie just wrote, it was promotional material for the show emailed to him from someone working on the show?
And in this case the "promotes homosexuality" was not intended as a slur?
So I was correct? My intuition on it was right?
Thanks for jumping all over me guys, haha.
Even if I was correct, I would like to thank you all for alerting me that "promotes homosexuality" is taken as a buzzword for being anti-gay.
If you don't mind saying, Robbie, are you gay yourself?

It's the "submissive" part that really gets to me.
In a good way.
Feel free to PM me any time.

Thank you, Robbie. I did not mean to out you if you weren't ready. I intuited it from all you wrote.
Okay all you guys, now kiss and make up.
Then you can worship YOUR GODDESS,
Your
nomdeplume!
