#151Tricks The Devil Taught Me is Reviewed
Posted: 8/19/11 at 1:38am
I'm sorry GhostLight - you told me many times on this Message Board about how you "understood" and how you could "help me." You are no different than Tony Georges. NYC is now learning what I have said - Tony Georges is an empty suit. His ideas, his projections, his work is all crap.
What is incredibly odd to me is that you wish to continue to defend him. Tony Georges is a lazy guy. Like many of the Reviewers' have said - his product is incomplete. Con-men like Tony sell sizzle without any steak. People invested because they thought the title of the show "Trick the Devil Taught Me" was clever or smart. But, the idiots (including those who became the cast and crew) never looked at the play itself. If they had, they would not have risked their reputations. I think they ALL deserve to lose for being lazy, too.
I took down my website last week because two guys came to see me and threatened me. I guess you're okay with that, too?
Tony Georges raises money on false premises. He doesn't have anything of value, he just presents it that way and a few gullible investors give him money. That scam is over.
Reviews of the show are the same as reviews of Tony Georges business practices - crap.
So, stop talking down to me. Go see the show, but hurry, it only has a few days left.

Get some therapy. I mean it. I have never "defended" Tony, don't know the guy, have no interest in the show. You are surprised that you've been insulted and yet you have repeatedly personally attacked and insulted me, and anyone else who doesn't instantly take as gospel your increasingly bïzarre claims is accused of knowing Tony or somehow involved in the production. The cast and crew are "idiots" and "lazy". .
No, I am not "okay" with anyone threatening you, if that did happen, and have no idea where you would get the idea I would be. It's yet another of yoùr strange assumptions and accusations thät makes it tough to believe anything you say.
Seriously, Robbie, you need to get some help. This happened to you over five years ago. Focus on your career. Whatever happened, you aren't processing this in a healthy way. You need to find a better way to go forward and get on with your life.

What I find curious is how Robbie knows the advance (1500, is that what he said? Really?), and how he knows whether the show is really selling that poorly (those reviews won't help it).
But I have a feeling that the bad reviews will kill the show. Not the government (if they'd been looking into it, and there had been wrong doing with the filings, then I think they'd have shut it down a long time ago.
It's a weird situation, because if what he says is true, I totally get where he's coming form. But yet... nothing he's predicted has yet to happen. Very odd. What to believe....
Whatever happens... it's a fascinating bit of theatre happening right now, if not on then off stage! I hope someone writes a tell-all. Heh.

Robbie -- I think that everyone here is just over your vendetta. You made your point, now you need to let it go. Most people here are nothing but audience members, so your 'warnings' don't mean much. Part of trying new theater is seeing some stuff that sucks...no matter the reason.
If there is truly an issue here THERE isn't anything for us the board to do. We are "the people" and we haven't been wronged.
You keep saying you are worried for the actors, investors and techies -- what is ranting here going to do for them? If they didn't investigate in what they were investing: shame on them. IF anything happens, they have legal recourse. As for the techies and the actors...they just want jobs. I'm sure they've been recieving whatever they are due based upon their contracts. If not, they'd be raising a stink and also have recourse.

Thank you dramamamma. I've had therapy. It has helped.
GhostLight: I issued a warning to the NYC Theatre community. Despite Tony Georges' past and the quality of his show, people invested a lot of money. Yeah, I call that stupid and lazy.
Tourboi: I get the numbers from two members of the show. You can be sure they have all been interested in the questionable finances. Tony Georges can't raise any money, so ticket sales were their only hope.
The New York Daily News, and the Showtime Blog here at BWW have also asked why this show ever happened? That's an appropriate question.
Maybe this is the last time people will get conned into a bad deal and a bad show. Tony Georges has to deal with that.
Of the 7 reviews so far this show has been completely dismissed. I am certainly not the only one that isn't surprised. Not a bit.

Ok...the show stinks. That doesn't make him a crook...even if he has had questionable OR illegal actions in the past. SOME people do change.
Once again: WE on this board can't do anything about it. I do believe you started this thread with the best intentions, but there is nothing else you can do here.

Two members? WHat's that mean? Cast members?
Box office info should only be made available to upper management. Hmm.

Posted: 8/20/11 at 10:40amWell at first this thread was entertaining (going by the reviews, more entertaining than this play). Now, it's just...sad. But if anyone would like to judge for themselves whether they like this show or not, the entirety of next week is available for free on www.goldstar.com I'm certainly going to try and make it. I know everyone keeps saying, "It's bad, and not in that so bad it's good way," but I just can't help myself!

He's not good at hiding, if he's trying to. Playbill caught him red handed!

Finally.
This show(?) never should have been produced. For the sake of theatre and all the performers, other writers, and new shows struggling for an opportunity, let's hope it never happens again.
Tony Georges still has a lot of explaining to do, but this latest train wreck could have been seen from 1,684 miles away - all the way to Odessa, Texas. THAT mess was never cleaned up.
Good luck to all the cast and crew. Maybe now you understand.
#167Tony Georges' Tricks Are Over
Posted: 8/23/11 at 12:13pmNo, we always understood. Tony Georges is a mediocre director and playwright who may or may not have broken the law five years ago, and you're a paranoid, delusional musician in your early 20s who has a Javert-like obsession with exacting revenge on him. It's pretty simple, actually.

Posted: 8/23/11 at 12:36pmI sympathize with the poor kid who got used by an older queen. Been there, done that. I sympathize with the investors, cast, and crew, who have either lost significant amounts of money or are out of jobs. Been there, done that. I think we all agree something this silly should never happen again, yes? Then let that be the end of it, instead of name-calling and ridiculousness.

It would appear the show is closing because of bad ticket sales. Shows close because of that all the time. Don't know what did/didn't happen in TX, but there's no evidence from anyone (at this time) that the show is closing because of any wrong-doing on his part.
So I'm not getting the "maybe now you understand," bit. I mean, I've read the posts, I get it... but we've seen dozens of allegations of this production in particular, and none have been proven.

Agreed. There seems to be no legal reasons for the close of the show. No actors exited. Nothing except not-great reviews and poor attendance.
Let's move on.
