Incredible star making turns from Brian Justin Crumm (sexiest actor I've seen on stage in a long time) and Ruby Lewis. Amazing actors with beautiful voices....and of course the brilliant music of Queen.
This production however is insanely bad. I'll say the set design was cool but the book credited to Ben Elton was absurd and literally the worst Book to a musical ever. Insultingly awful.
Sound design was harrible...what were they thinking - or hearing?
Always wanted to see this since it's been a hit in the West End for so long but honestly it's a really bad show.
Curious to the ratio of walk outs at Intermission...
I'm guessing this will never find it's way to Broadway

You have to take this show for what it is, which is really all just about the music of Queen. The story and book are silly and make little sense, but I have to agree with you, Brian Justin Crum and Ruby Lewis gave ridiculously good performances. Such strong and incredible voices. The one weak link for me in the show was Jacqueline Arnold who played the Killer Queen. Rather than bring it and be fierce, she phoned in her performance and held back her vocals IMO.
As far as walkouts go, I doubt there were many. The audience was very enthusiastic when I attended. Oh and yes, BJC is very sexy!

I am seeing the show tomorrow- Will report on my thoughts after.
I LOVED Brian in The Addams Family, so can't wait to see him in this! He is the sweetest guy you could want to meet!

Posted: 8/6/14 at 4:28amI saw the show on Sunday, and I thought it was a really fun show, and I enjoyed it quite a bit (more that i thought I would). I agree, you could totally tell the book, if you can even call it that, attempted to build around as many songs as possible, thus making it very confusing. It got really hard to follow during Act 2. BUT, the performances by Brian Justin Crum, who I agree is very very sexy, and Ruby Lewis made up for it. They were unbelievably spectacular. The rest of the cast is quite good as well. If you want something fun and cute and full of well known songs, this is the show to see.

Posted: 8/6/14 at 7:06amI have always been shocked that this has done so well here in the UK, the reviews were pretty bad when it opened but the music is so good i guess thats what kept it going (though thank God its now closed in London). A far better book could have been created around the music, this one is embarrassing.

Posted: 8/6/14 at 11:33amI saw this in Providence back in April. It is a great Queen-music concert. But as a book musical it is crap. Upon exiting from it, I too wondered how it has played in London for so long. If you want a great concert of Queen music, go. If you expect a coherent book musical, forget it.

Unfortunately, I saw the production in Vegas first before I saw this full-fledged production on the stage. I only say "unfortunately" because that Vegas performance blew me away completely as a musical theater fan and as a Queen fan. I saw it back in 2005 and I imagine it retained most of the UK material. The show was condensed for the Vegas audience before performances there don't come with an intermission but I feel that's where the show benefitted. It didn't have an intermission, it was fun, it was electric and exciting and that production had some pretty spectacular voices.
Then I saw it at the Ahmanson recently and the production had changed significantly. Vegas really had a great show on their hands -- technically. It was in residency there at the time so I imagine they were able to fix some of the sets. The current touring version is very toned down in comparison. One of the highlights I miss was showing Freddie on the screen at the end of the show. The crowd went wild the first time I saw it. There was something missing in this LA production. At the heart of it, it is a musical based on the music of Queen and Queen certainly wouldn't be where they were without Freddie Mercury.
That being said, Ruby Lewis and Brian Justin Crumm can sing me the phone book and I'd be blown away by them. The two of them onstage together was really something to witness. I hope I can see them again before the end of the run. As someone said, the Killer Queen performance was incredibly disappointing. I wish she was played by a stronger performer.

Vernie; You are absolutely right. Their voices are incredible. But I would rather go see them sing somewhere. I understand they just performed here at Rockwell?
Alessio2; Hate to tell you.. there have been many, many, MANY walkouts. Mostly the older subscription audiences..

Posted: 8/6/14 at 3:55pmDAME I don't doubt there have been many walkouts as I know that alot of the patrons at Ahmanson are older subscribers. I just said the audience seemed to enjoy it the night I was there. It's not a show for everyone, as it is extremely loud.

Crumm played Tarzan at North Shore a few seasons ago.
Enough said.

Posted: 8/6/14 at 7:17pmThe show is completely silly, and the music is very loud. The show has existed for a long time, so it's not a mystery as to the content. What did you expect? I can't imagine the creators were going for a solid "book musical". They made a rock concert with some mindless fun being a significant part of the experience - and it is fun for many people. If that's what they intended, it appears they succeeded in a big way (in London at the very least). I saw the show in London several years ago, and it was entertaining enough for me I plunked down a bit of cash to see it in LA too. It was still fun and an entertaining evening for me and those who attended with me. As for walkouts, I did notice a very small number. As for the many who stayed, they appeared to have a very fun night out.

Totally agree about the actor playing Killer Queen. her voice and presence did not match the energy of the production.
I had heard, after the fact, that the cast had played at Rockwell but heard that Brian was on vocal rest
Two amazing lead performances that will become Broadway Stars

I saw the show tonight and LOVED IT- every moment of it. I don't get why people don't like this musical. I saw nothing wrong with the show at all- it was fantastic. I have seen the show twice in London but can't remember much about those experiences.
The two leads are insanely talented and vocally ridiculously good! Brian is extremely good looking and ripped-Those arms and chest! I agree that Jackie B seemed really into it and was really good. I guess I just like shows that others don't- I Love the Addams Family, Wonderland and Catch Me If You Can which I know a lot of people on here don't. LOL
I wish I could go again, I had soo much fun! The cast were also all really sweet at the stage door.
