It's very common to hear voice teachers criticize her wobbly vibrato. Chin wiggling with vibrato is a(n?) hallmark of bad vocal technique as any vocal coach or teacher worth their salt will tell you.
This isn't about hero worship/diva hate, it's about aesthetics, you may love her, that's fine. Inexplicable to me, but fine nonetheless.
It's a free country (barely) and we can agree to disagree and not be nasty, right?
Don't take it as a personal attack when I say the woman sings like a squeezebox that's been left out in the rain and then placed in a blender. It's not about you.

I don't think that everyone worships at her feet, nor did I say that. I just thought that saying she doesn't have ANY technique is a little harsh. How could she get where she is without any technique? Anyway, you're right- to each his own. Personal attack? Not at all...

Why is another recording of Gypsy needed? Looks like the major companies that record musicals crunched the number and discovered profits from a new recording weren't great than the recording costs.

yeah, after seeing this performance, I would rather have a solo Benanti album with Little Lamb on it than listen to another Diva screw this up again.

Hey, im allowed to have an opinion. I thought Tyne Daly was great, and then these two came and well, you know how I feel.
The best Gypsy on record IMO is Lansbury

Go Dolly!!!! Patti is life and one of the two finest singers that I have ever heard/seen live... And that's not diva worship!!!! That's a judge of talent... I am not thrown by "diva-ism" or celebrity, but I do get awestruck in the presence of a talent as great as LuPone's... She is absolutely fantastic... So, shut it BK...

BK, I know it's not always a good idea to argue with someone who just genuinely doesn't seem to like a performer, but I thought I'd ask. have you heard either Matters of the Heart or Lady With the Torch?
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.

Why is another recording needed? One should be recorded at least for preservation. I enjoy this version of Gypsy very much, but others do not. But to let it fade away from history forever would be a disgrace.
