Not sure if this has been mentioned yet but on King of Queens, Doug's mother mentions how she wants to see Spamalot.
"I was watching Law & Order:CI. A girl is listening to her IPod in an elevator and gets murdered. The detectives hear what's she was listening to....turns out to be a few songs from WICKED. (don't remember the title of the songs she was listening to b/c it was so long ago but I know it included Popular)"
To add to that one, the girl listening to the songs was auditioning for her schools production of Wicked..and since it at the time had been out less than a year, I was cracking up.
Another reference, Rent was mentioned during CSI: NY. If I remember correctly (which might not be the case, haha) they found a dead body with tickets to something and Gary Sinese says "Well, I dont think hes going to see Rent.."
-On Friends, in "TOW the Fake Monica," Monica goes to an open audition for Cats but only ends up singing "Mem--" before running off the stage.
-In Mrs. Doubtfire, when Harvey Feirstein and his boyfriend are helping Robin Williams with his disguise, they look at themselves in the mirror and sing "Matchmaker."
-In the movie Wet Hot American Summer there is a camp talent show of some sort in which a group of people sing "Day by Day" and are booed.
-On Quantum Leap, Sam Beckett (Scott Bakula) leaps into an actor performing Man of La Mancha and features a few snippets of him singing songs, such as "Dulcinea" and "The Impossible Dream."
-In The Baby-sitters Club series, #85 Claudia Kishi, Live from WSTO!:
Frank: "Hey, want to see Tommy?"
Tim: "Who's Tommy?"
Frank: "Right."
Tim: "Tommy Wright?"
Frank: "No, Who's Tommy!"
Tim: "That's what I asked you!"
Tim: "Never Mind. How about Cats?"
Frank: "Oh, Tommy Katz! Why didn't you tell me?"
-In The Baby-sitters Club series, #56 Keep Out, Claudia!, the Baby-sitters Club forms a "band" with their sitting charges, which performs numbers from Fiddler on the Roof including "Anatevka" and "Tradition" - this is after rejecting songs from Annie like "Little Girls."

There are some references from Frasier. One is the episode entitled "Merry Christmas Mrs. Markowitz", with Carol Shelley as Mrs. Markowitz and she thinks Frasier is jewish so he gets Niles and Martin to play along and Niles is asked to give a toast and to stay in the spirit of things he just spits out all of these jewish phrases(i'm not mentioning them cause I can't spell them) and Frasier turns and says, "Take it down a notch Teyve."
There's an episode of The Critic called "Every Doris Gets Her Day", where Jay and Doris go see the new Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, "Hunch" based on the Hunchback of Notre Dame, no doubt a parody of The Phantom of The Opera and during the show the bell comes down and rings on Jay, which was a direct spoof of the chandelier in Phantom.
Most "Depserate Housewives" are named after Sondheim songs.

I guess this is a minor spoiler for the first episode of the third season of Veronica Mars, but apparently she and Keith went to see Spamalot on their trip to NY this summer...
Ok--here's a couple I hope haven't been mentioned---
I watched "Two and a Half Men" for the first (and probably last) time a couple weeks ago. Cameron Manheim was guest starring as a trashy depressed caterer who feels her true purpose in life is to be a musical star---long story short she ends up singing "I AM WHAT I AM" (and presumably the entire score) from Les Cage Aux Folles! (That was my WEIRD reference!)
Also have to say the NIKE commercial with Maria Sharapova set to the song "I Feel Pretty" is odd. I love when it cuts to John McEnroe singing--"I Feel Pretty" is quite funny. Lets just boost this girls obvious vanity about her looks a little more please *pause*while I find the nearest garbage to puke in* --Can't deny she has skills however. Sorry about the vanity rant-- (This I guess is also a WEIRD reference:))

Gilmore Girls tonight - When Lorelai discusses her theme for her wedding party, she mentions instead of having a La Boheme theme, she suggests RENT. Sorry for bumping an extremely old thread, but thought it was a little weird.
Augh. I was just going to post the Veronica Mars one and the Gilmore Girls one. I guess I can add that Edward Hibbert was on tonights episode of Gilmore Girls. Not a Broadway reference but a Broadway actor.

I was watching Still Standing on Lifetime once, and the aunt on the show took the son to see Mamma Mia! It went something like that... I saw it awhile ago, so it's not too fresh in my mind.
There's the reference to Michael Crawford & The Phantom of the Opera in "High School Musical" (the only thing I enjoyed in that movie). And the cartoon "Family Guy" has zillions of 'em, because its creator/writer/actor Seth MacFarlane is a huge Broadway fan. Just a few of the shows they've referenced include:
The Phantom of the Opera
The King and I
West Side Story
Rent
Fiddler On the Roof
Grease
Cats

One episode of "Veggie Tales" was written to the score of Gilbert and Sullivan's "The Mikado" The lyrics, of course, were different, but the tune was the same. It was one of the most random things I've ever heard while I was flipping the channels. I ended up stopping and watched the entire episode in hysterics.
Does anyone else remember the Sarah Jessica Parker Gap commercial to "I Enjoy Being a Girl"?
Another ANGEL reference:
John Rubenstein (the original Pippin) was guest starring as an evil lawyer (insert redundancy joke here) who is yelling at Lilah, a subserviant who has tried to go over his head. He turns to her and yells,
"THIS IS MY CORNER OF THE SKY, LILAH!"
I caracked the heck up. My friends stared at me blankly. I explained and now, whenever I listen to PIPPIN, my best friend says the line and cracks up.

On episode of The Critic called "Dukearella" has Alice's sister coming to stay with her, Jay, and Penny(Alice's daughter). The first couple of minutes are clearly a spoof of "A Streetcar Named Desire" with her getting off a bus(instead of a streetcar) and saying "I've always depended on the kindness of strangers" to which the guy behind her shoves her and says "Then you're in the wrong place. This is New York."
Laer in the episode, Alice actually says to her, "Please, let's not make this anymore of 'A Streetcar Named Desire' then is already has to be." To which Jay comes in doing a Brando impersonation and says "Alice...Alice. What we got here is the Napoleonic Code which meansI get to eat as many Napoleons as I can find."
There's also a web episode devoted to theatre and one of the bits I remember from it was the cast of Seinfeld in "Death of a Salesman".

Gilmore Girls does it often. Off the top of my head, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolfe (sp?), Pippin, Fiddler on the Roof, RENT, Spamalot, and Taboo.

On Pepper Ann in the musical episode she auditions for "Monique" the flaming red head leader of the young revolution in "Detention:The Musical" and they had several "Cats" jokes in it too.
In an episode of MadTV, the skit was with Leona Campbell (played by Stephanie Weir). I don't remember details but I do remember at some point, Donald Trump takes Leona up in his glass elevator (a la Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) and as they're flying over NYC, Leona looks down and says:
"Oh look, there's my friend Zelda going to see Taboo. Of course, she's the only one..." Or something along those lines.
And in Will & Grace, Loraine (played by Minnie Driver) says "I'm off to the Taboo wrap party...they have one every night, you know, just in case."

"There's the "I Feel Pretty" sing-along, obviously, but there's also the part where Adam's character goes to court, and the judge mentions that her son is in Fiddler on the Roof...and Adam says "I'm sure (name) will make a wonderful Tevye." The judge is black, if I remember correctly, which makes it funny."
Actually, the Fiddler moment is when Jack Nicholson's character enters the room and talks to the judge. When the judge says that her son is in Fiddler on the Roof, Jack says, "Oh, I'm sure he'll make a breathtaking Tevye!"
In Wings there was an episode where they were trying to get into see Rent.
In Ugly Betty, during the Thanksgiving episode, Marc talks about going home and telling his family about his girlfriend who lives in Canada. And then Marc and Amanda were singing along to a song from Dreamgirls.
Along with Lease in Team America, there are also the references to Cats.
Family Guy is always doing references to musicals like Shipoopi ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPt0n9--wNE )
Les Mis (http://youtube.com/watch?v=kb6ZhmIipr0)
and Phantom (http://youtube.com/watch?v=za_jNkebn8Q). And though it's not exactly a reference to a musical, they had a bit with Carol Channing:

When the Yankees first signed Hideki Matsui, they held a press conference with a photo shoot in the middle of Times Square.
In the background was the gigantic billboard for Thoroughly Modern Millie. It was on tv and in all the papers.
This the time of year for signing free agents and it just reminded me.
On the Holloween episode of Ugly Betty, Betty's younger brother Justin dressed as the lead character from On the Town and started singing "New YOrk, New York"
Ok..this is going back a ways...
But I remember on the show "St. Elsewhere", which starred William Daniels, they would occasionally page members of the Continental Congress in the background of the hospital. For example: "Dr. Bartlett. Dr. Josiah Bartlett please report to room 302" or "Reverend Witherspoon, you're needed in the chapel".

On Family Guy Stewie and Brian are in boot camp, and while they are marching the guy leading the march is singing, "West Side Story, Anything Goes are my favorite Broadway shows. Miss Saigon and Cabaret overrated I should say." And then the marchers join in and do a dance combination. LOL It was funny. Also on the Simpsons there is a whole bit about The Lion King but instead it is Itchy & Scratchy the Musical, LOL and at the end Julie Taymor comes out. Another Family Guy one is when Peter and Lois' dad are in a train and there is a Mamma Mia! poster, LOL Peter is trying to convince Lois' father to go. It was the best. = )
