Dreamcatcher, I think I can stomach the third person ones a lot better than I can the first person ones, for what I suppose are obvious reasons. The ones I've read that I've found to be really great have all been third person, I think. I just feel like if you're going to write something like this and at least have a stab and seeming like you aren't doing it so you can narrate yourself in bed with one of these actors (because here, these are the actors that define the characters, try as you might to deny it), then you can't do it first person. That's just weird.
I also -- I've said this before -- never picked up on Mark and Roger being anything further than best friends and roommates. However, I think how you percieve that is partially based on who you see. Partially. That's WHY I alluded to assumptions and speculations that led to the beginning of Adam/Anthony/Mark/Roger fics. But, I don't really stand where I am just because I don't see that about the characters -- it still freaks me out when people write really graphic first-person Roger/Mimi sex scenes. Or, I mean... write it, be merry, but don't stick it online.
I think with fanfic in general, there are ones that are so beautiful because Jonathan left us with such wonderfully deep, explorable characters that feel like real people, and the good writers can really dig into that. Those aren't the writers who are just like "woulldn't it be really hot if Mark and Roger [Adam and Anthony} had wild, crazy sex?"
Don't get me wrong, I've totally read them, simply out of curiousity. I've read ones that at least try to be decidedly Mark/Roger, but... oh! There's one that ties in the lyrics of Adam's song, Just Here to the Left of You, which I thought was quite clever. Reading it, I think I was so uncomfortable because Roger didn't write that song. Adam did. That's what I meant about having far too much crossover. Granted, write what you want, share it with your friends, have a lovely time, but... I wonder why it's not weird to "publish" this stuff.

It seems like a lot of the Rent people do sogs that they don't usually sing in the show. Okay, well, by a lot, I mean Anthony and Idina. I wish Adam would do something totally out-of-character, but being that he went so many years refusing to sing Glory, I doubt that'll happen.
