Fanfic is creepy. And the vast majority of it is written by angsty teenage girls intent on bastardizing someone else's literary genius. I would hate for my own work to be taken and altered without my consent like these people do. I saw a Joanne/Angel fic the other day on LJ- how the hell would that even be possible!?

SIIIIMS.
And Adam's buff. He could take Anthony, I think. :O
Although I have to admit the roommate shower-sharing scenario is quite hilarious to imagine, fanfics about it..... oy. That would creep ME out if I found fanfiction of ME like that.
I never will, but I'm just trying to put myself in others' shoes.

Orange, that could of stemmed from that challenge with all of the wacked out pairings.
I don't really have a problem with fan fiction, and I like reading it, as long as it's good. The problem with Rent fanfiction is that most of it sucks.

Fan fic can be cool and well written if it's not bastardized. Although I haven't read any of the Rent fan fic.
And Mandi that's cool with the Mark and Roger Legos. My dad was sitting close by me and asked me what it was and I tried to explain it but he thought it was weird. I thought it was really cool. But then I'm the one who actually understands Rent.

I don't have a problem with fanfic about characters, really. Legitimate writers have been doing something along those lines for centuries, and there's something healthy about people writing their own fiction. It's when they're about real people that they cross the line, I think.
The shower story was reported on the boards by someone who saw an interview with them on a program called Daily Downloads on the cable station Fuse. Unfortunately I missed it.

I never been against fanfiction. The only one that I heard about that made me think it was bizarre was Schindlers's List fanfic and slash. My friend had told me about it so that's why I was weirded out a little bit.

It would be very creepy.

I'm selectively against fanfiction. I think that's an accurate statement.
And I'm sorry, but I think it's totally tasteless to make slash/fanfiction of something like Schindler's List. Honestly. Have you nothing better to adapt? I could see making stories about the characters, or something, but making that into mindless sexual content really bothers me.

is it online anywhere?
and yeah, i see nothing wrong with fan fic if it's written about your take on the characters. i mean, theater has always been about taking other people's ideas and making them your own, so why not have some writing be the same?

"`I grow old... I grow old... I shall wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled.` What does that mean, Mr. Marlowe?"
"Not a bloody thing. It just sounds good."
He smiled. "That is from the `Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock.` Here's another one. `In the room women come and go/Talking of Michael Angelo.' Does that suggest anything to you, sir?"
"Yeah -- it suggests to me that the guy didn't know very much about women."
"My sentiments exactly, sir. Nonetheless I admire T. S. Eliot very much."
"Did you say, 'nonetheless'?"

I've never read the slash for Shindler's List so I wouldn't know about that. That's just according to a friend of mine. I have read slash that was good but it's far from my favorite. Plus don't really have time to read anymore so it's all good.

There's fanfiction for everything, and some of it is weird. There used to be a section on ff.net for music fanfiction, and most of it was about band member from various bands screwing. Creeped me out.
Fanfiction with characters doesn't bother me at all. I write Rent stuff, I'm half writing right now.
It's just, the stuff with actual people creeps me out a bit...but I guess I don't care if people write it, I just never would.

I wouldn't write it either.

The interview isn't online anywhere that I know of. I was going to try and record that one little part for people with my digital camera because the whole interview was pretty long.

YES. I'd LOVE that interview.
Is this turning into another fanfiction discussion, by the way?

No, lets turn it into a discussion about the clip, which is really short, and has caused much discussion. Give me like 3 seconds to upload it.

No just a minor off-topic discussion I think.
Can't wait for Wednesday like everybody else. Don't know if I'm going to skip classes or not.

I am going to make one of the dumbest decisions ever, which I am sure I will regret.....however:
I do plan on seeing the movie at the midnight showing on Tues/Wednesday. This means I will likely not return home until 3AM.
3AM would generally not an issue, except that on Wednesday morning I have to direct around 130 second-graders in their Grandparent's Day program at 9AM (which means I'll be getting to school at 7AM that morning....)
The day is already going to be hellish as it's the day before Thanksgiving break which means all of my classes are going to be bouncing off the walls.
I may not survive.....but sometimes you just have to make sacrifices for RENT.

I applaud you doing that especially with a bunch of second graders. You have more courage than me. I don't know if I can teach elementary school. But anyways good luck with that.

I'm going to the screening in NYC. I'm taking the bus back to school, and getting back at 3am. I'm going back to my dorm, packing, then I have to be at the airport at 8am the next morning to fly home. THEN, I'm going out that night to see the movie AGAIN with my little sister. I'm to be beyond exhausted.

Oh wow - haven't visited here for a while. This thread is the reason I joined BWW! Just popping in and saying hello as my anticipation grows and grows for the movie.
(I'll be at the midnight screening as well!)

*hums* So I've got this little 26 second long clip...and I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post it...someone enlighten me?
I have nothing to do on Wednesday, it's great. Hopefully I can catch the movie twice, because I'm a loser, but yeah.
