Does Cate Blanchett even sing?

I'd also love a Lincoln Center production of Oliver!. I feel like Bart Sher could get into the darkness of the show.

I've been thinking the same thing! I also think Danny Burstein would make an interesting choice for Fagin.

The same question I previously had with Cate Blanchett, does Matthew Rhys even sing?

^no worries, Musical Theatre Frenzy.
Bartlett Sher is a director, here mentioned for his musical revivals at Lincoln Center, South Pacific, The King and I and the currently running My Fair Lady

When André Bishop & Bartlett Sher were on Theater Talk's recent episode covering My Fair Lady, Bishop did mention that he thought about Show Boat, but finds the book to be more than problematic.

Could Burton sing?  Or Harris?  Rhys could probably acquit himself similarly

Blanchett has a surprisingly good singing voice.  She has enough of a voice to sing Mame and would act the sh*t out of that role.  She'd be great in A Little Night Music too.  Rhys would be incredible in Camelot.  He's an great actor.  Danny Burstein would be a great Fagin, as would Mandy Patinkin.

Odd.  The recent London revival was gorgeous and received unanimous raves from critics.  It's a shame it didn't transfer.

She'd be great in A Little Night Music too.

I'd LOVE to see Blanchett in a big splashy revival of Night Music with a lush orchestra.  I hope the RNT or ENO would pick that up across the pond.  I'd gladly fly to London for it.

I can't see Cate Blanchett as Mame at all. The character is pretty brassy and earthy, while Cate always strikes me as being elegant and composed...even when she's trying not to be.

After Eight, there must be a director working today who could handle a musical revival as you see fit. Not a fan of Sher or Zaks?

Also, I will never forgive Josh Gad for fooling us about a FORUM revival at last year's Tony ceremony...curse you Josh Gad!

There has to be some reason why Encores has never done ME AND JULIET (especially now that they're beginning to repeat titles). Maybe R&H won't let them? Or is the book very problematic?

I was so excited when Flower Drum Song made its latest run.  I always found the movie to be so cute with some great choreography and songs. I really liked Salonga and Llana when I saw it at the Mark Taper prior to its brief Broadway run.

Whatever it was that didn't work with the book (which seemed to be the biggest complaint) I'd like to see revamped and try it again.

I'm sure there are many capable of it. But would they, and would they be hired to do so?

"Not a fan of Sher or Zaks?"

Definitely not of the first named. And with respect to Zaks, I was not happy with the addition of Penny in My Pocket to Dolly. The show was perfect as it was.

Leave well enough alone, or just leave it alone.

The Goodman production of Brigadoon in Chicago a few years ago was gorgeous.  I ended up seeing it three times.  It's a shame that production, as well as their Wonderful Town, didn't go to Broadway.

Never having seen FIORELLO but loving the album, I'd really like to finally see a fully staged production of the show.

A vote for DRAT! THE CAT! too which has a fun score and storyline.

Always been curious of the show LOVE LIFE which I know little about.

Having been fortunate to have grown up in NYC in the latter part of this period I got to see the classic hits (and misses) that I never would've been able to see on my own. Problem is having sat thru some of the more recent revivals I don't think I've ever seen the original bettered in cast or production values such as THE MUSIC MAN, 110 IN THE SHADE, SWEET CHARITY, CHICAGO as well as shows from the next decade such as ON THE TWENTIETH CENTURY, SWEENEY TODD, ANNIE, A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC and A CHORUS LINE. And let's not even get into the scaled down orchestras for these revivals. A perfect case of producer's greed even when paying exorbitant ticket prices. Except for some like Bartlett Sher who makes a theatre goer realize just how exciting a full live orchestra pit can sound.

The Most Happy Fella

And there are already some pretty perfect cast albums of Guys and Dolls, The Pajama Game, Do Re Mi, Pal Joey, and Man of La Mancha but I wouldn't be mad at them doing revivals if they had the right casting and vision.

I'm intrigued by this Matthew Rhys in Camelot idea.

Also, for my own sake I'd like to see a production of Skyscraper with two great leads.

Has Antonio Banderas done Man of La Mancha yet? He seems the most obvious choice for Cervantes/Don Quixote.

I am jonesing to see a good production of CAMELOT on Broadway at some point. Mostly so we can get a complete cast recording, which includes the Persuasion.

Mame starring Sheryl Lee Ralph.  I know it wont happen, and I also know I seem to have a weird obsession with casting Sheryl Lee Ralph in all these revivals, but I just think she's so fabulous and entertaining.
