Posted: 3/2/05 at 10:17pmI know some some of you have tried out for some major shows so I was wondering what some of you have tried out for and what was it like trying-out for a big show.

I've done a few hundred chorus calls. The only thing i ever had a serious shot at was Cyranno.
I got typed in at Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

Posted: 3/2/05 at 11:24pmThe fact that they are looking for replacements...does that mean they're staying for a bit longer?

Posted: 3/3/05 at 12:41amI went to an open call for Hairspray in January but won't know for a year if I get a call back or not. It was a great experience though!

this isn't broadway, but i auditioned to be a dancer at a disneyland parade. that was the funniest experience of my life. after you danced across the room, this guy pointed for you to go to one side or the other. it was obvious which was the LOSER side, but he was so nice...so "disneyland cheezy" when he pointed.
haven't auditioned for bway yet...YET!

Posted: 3/3/05 at 9:56pmIs it hard at those auditions.....I've just always wondered.

Posted: 3/3/05 at 10:19pmdue to my school schedule i never have the time to go to auditions (we have a 4 absenses= you fail policy so skipping's iffy) but i seriously considered the open call for hairspray (for corny and link specifically) and the standby call for jameson in drs(so what i'm almost 20 years too young- a wig could fix that easy)

I auditioned for RENT, but I was only 16 at the time. It was a private audition with Victoria because I had won a Contest
fun stuff! That will always be my favorite memory Of visiting NYC!

Posted: 3/5/05 at 2:08amI auditioned for the current national tour of PETER PAN with Cathy Rigby but was told that I was too tall to play a lost boy and too short to play a pirate. I wanted to play Slighly.

Posted: 3/5/05 at 6:14amYou should have pointed out that Peter Pan is being played by a girl, so a short pirate or a tall lost boy shouldn't be that distracting! Anyway, Tommy Tune would never have had a career if people didn't think outside the square.

Posted: 3/5/05 at 8:54amI recently auditioned for Hairspray, but I've been battling with bronchitis and lost my voice halfway through...despite my best efforts to conserve/preserve it. Either way, it was still a fun experience, and now I know more about what to expect next time! :0)

"Rent," twice..."Fiddler on the Roof," "The Lion King," went to a "Wicked" open call, but too many equity showed up, I did a few for off broadway things, and a couple for the Westchester Broadway Dinner Theater.
If at first you don't succeed...lol

Never auditioned for Broadway and I've only auditioned for a few things in Toronto, while I was in highschool, among those were....
- Two coca cola commercials.
- The Producers (even though the call was for over 5'9'' and I'm 5'7'', gotta love Toronto because they don't "type out" and I still got to dance it! Great experience).
- Blood Brothers.
- The Music Man movie with Cheno and Broderick.
Funny story about the Music Man. I made the final cut for dancers even though due to a knee injury I hadn't been to a dance class in 9 months. It was an open call and my drama teacher told me if I didn't go to it he'd lower my grade (obviously he wouldn't but he was adamant about me going). So after spending two long gruelling days in dance auditions, I got cut, no big deal- I still had a great time!
My brother is in a world-renowned marching band. He got a call about a week later and was ASKED to be in the movie (at the end when they have the marchers in red). He did it.
NOT ONLY THAT.........but the original poster design did not feature a star of the film, but rather a face of a kid in the marching band.
Disney asked my darling little brother to do it.
Problem was, he had facial hair. And the stubborn 16 year old refused to change his appearance for anyone, even Disney.
Could have killed him but I was secretly thankful my trumpet playing brother's face wasn't all over the place advertising that movie!
I had to decline auditions for the Canadian premieres of *sniff* Little Women (Beth) and Bat Boy (Shelley) because of being away at school......can't wait till I've got this degree so I can get this party started!
