What I love most about ROCK OF AGES being nominated for Best Musical

This is a show that CLEARLY had no sights set on Broadway when they started in Vegas. Then, they moved to Off-Broadway and you could tell they still had no sights set on Broadway.

Then, New Line bought the movie rights and the only logical next step was to move to Broadway.

Talk about a diamond in the rough success story!

I haven't seen the show yet, but I say good for them. They surely had a better morning than they expected! And they have reason to celebrate. They got some pretty big nominations. And it makes me wanna go see the show so I can see what all the hype (or whatever you'd call it) is about...

As I said on another thread, I was glad Kristen Hangii got a nom (for one to piss off Arthur Laurents) but mostly because She took a bunch of old songs, a thin piece of book and turned it into a show that entertains audiences and got decent critical notices.
Too bad she wasn't able to get BARE to Broadway.

I like that it was nominated over 9 to 5. I dont like that it was nominated over [title of show].

Janney has a slightly better chance at winning now that she's the sole nominee. And although I haven't seen Ripley's performance, I hope she wins because honestly, a non-singer and non-dancer should not win a musical award.

Ripley and Olivo are locks.

O pooh, the award is not best singer or best dancer, it's "Best Performance by a Leading/Featured Actor/Actress in a Musical." Or in your terms, maybe it's good that Elaine Stritch never won a Tony for her musical performances. And we should take away John Lithgow and Harvey Fierstein's Tonys.

John Lithgow won for Best Performance by a Leading/Featured Actress in a Musical? I knew about Harvey, but --

Elaine Stritch, by the way, is a song-and-dance gal. So, I hope she wins a lifetime Tony soon.

Diamonds, in the rough, are cloudy-looking, lumpy pieces of ROCK, and unless they are cut and polished, are TREMENDOUSLY like Rock Of Ages, Thank You Mr. YankeeFan.

What I Love Most About ROCK OF AGES Being Nominated For Best Musical is: that one of the best musicians I've ever worked with is the Musical Director, HENRY ARONSON. You Go, Henry!

Please, LadyDramaturg, you knew what I meant. And I love me some Elaine Stritch! But is she the best singer? No. Does she deserve Tony Awards? Yes, please! I was just saying you don't have to be the best singer or dancer to win a Tony in a musical, nor should you have to be the best singer or dancer since it's an acting award above all.

It actually didn't start in Vegas (only did a few days there). It actually started in a small bar in Hollywood.... which even more so supports your "Cinderella" story regarding this project, Yankeefan.

I do love being able to say "I told you so." I only wish I could say it to Charleston's face, and Zoneace's face, and all the other incredibly negative people on these boards who use terms like "waste of humanity" to describe people who like things they don't like. Those wannabe's can suck it! LOVE LIVE ROA!!!!

my user name is intentionally ironic... a slam on the saddest portion of the population that happens to inhabit this message board. Y'know, people who talk **** about others but don't have the courage or talent to create anything of their own. It's for them.
