I'm fairly new here, so forgive me if this has been asked and answered. I am putting together a benefit show and I was wondering what Broadway songs would you most like to hear in an evening of 'Broadway Classics'......your thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

"I have dreamed" is wonderful.
I would add "People" from FUNNY GIRL to the list.

Defying Gravity is definately NOT a standard.

Over the Rainbow
Where or When
I Could Have Danced All Night
On The Street Where You Live
Always True To You (In My Fashion)
The Impossible Dream
A Wonderful Guy

Now THOSE are standards.

It's overdone, but 'What I Did For Love'

'Younger Than Springtime' is a classic, like 'All the Things You Are' and 'I Loved You Once in Silence'. Some newer classics I like would be 'Not A Day Goes By' and 'Unexpected Song', along with many, many others, but those are what I would recommend for a 'Classic Broadway' revue.

hehe KMF I know that, but technically it has been a stage musical for a very, very long time.
It was #1 on AFI's movie song list, and it's Judy. I'm allowed re: What are you favorite Broadway 'standards'?

I'd definitely like to hear

On My Own, I Dreamed a Dream, or Stars - Les Miserables
Always True to You (In My Fashion)- Kiss Me Kate
Think of Me or Music of the Night - Phantom of the Opera
I Could've Danced All Night - My Fair Lady

and...I'm not sure if Chicago is a classic:| but I'd enjoy hearing something from that musical:)

Standards are songs that have been around awhile, and appear on almost all of those Broadway compilation CDs, done by other singers and orchestras. Here are some:

"Don't Cry For Me Argentina" from Evita
"Oh, What a Beautiful Morning" and "Oklahoma!" from Oklahoma!
"The Impossible Dream" from Man of La Mancha
"Everything's Coming Up Roses" from Gypsy
"On My Own" from Les Miserables
"Music of the Night" from Phantom of the Opera
"Memory" from Cats
"Any Dream Will Do" from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
