I would much rather sit through Grease than Passing Strange to be honest...although i believe I gave Grease a half a star in my review of it and PS two and a half stars...the more I think about PS the more I realize how much I really didn't like it. It's not worse than Grease but to be honest I would rather sit through the crap that was Grease simply because it was marginally more fun than PS. PS is a mess, in my opinion, Grease is a trainwreck. And I'll take a laughably bad trainwreck over a muddled mess anyday!

Personally, I think RENT is fabulous..it's just gotten too commercial and people see it for the wrong reasons..
Ugh, and South Pacific has fabulous music but is possibly the most boring show I have EVER seen!!!!

Best: (you're all gonna hate me) Spring Awakening
Worst: Wicked ...it was awful when I saw it.. like can we say sucky casting directors!?!?

for those of you who are saying rent and wicked....Keep in mind we are going for WORST not most ovverrated for the wrong reasons. Just because it's not nearly as good as people generally think it is does not make it inherently bad....nor does it make people classier, more theatre savvy, or smarter to lower your opinion of the show based on someone else's opinions. However misguided they may be. Not to neccesarily accuse you personally...I'm speaking in generalities. (it's been bugging me for a while)

Although we have are pride, we have been known to cast for food. BERNARD TELSEY CASTING, C.S.A.

Okay i'm saying it

Best: RENT

Worst: Spring Awakening

~ducks under table to avoid broadway-related projectiles~

RENT, although now very commercial needs to be examined before passing judgement. The RENTheads, the absurd casting stunts, the remixed version, and everything else done to it after the composer died has truely brought the show down. When looking at a musical, I look at it in its initial stages, when it had every oppertunity to either succeed or fail.

RENT succeeded to the extent that a bizarre cult-like fan base and commercial label were tacked on almost immediately. Jonathan Larson never intended ANY of this to be associated with his edgy, time-defying musical.

Its a musical about "going against the grain", which the fans have made the new popular thing to do ^_^

Spring Awakening takes the worst for me. To start, without RENT and Hair (and others of course) it wouldn't have ever been accepted, and in my opinion, had it been the first of its kind, it wouldve been slammed down, locking the gate for the musicals like rent. It might seem drastic to accuse SA of potentially ruining broadway, but its a musical of vain pointless sex and teenage boys going through puberty. Theres no lasting message for the audience on love and acceptance. its just..a story.

I think we all know RENT and WICKED are flawed but to say they're worse than GREASE and some of the other complete garbage on Broadway right now is a bit far-fetched, in my opinion.

They're not by any means the best shows on Broadway right now but they are certainly not the worst.

dramagirl, I agree with you on the RENT aspect, but not on the Spring Awakening opinion.

Spring Awakening had to have had some lasting impact on a few people, including, but not limited to, those who have gone back to see it dozens of times.

BEST--- Spring Awakening.

WORST--- GREASE.

I didn't think that The Little Mermaid was that horrible...

Is this for the worst production/current cast or the over-all show?
If it is for the latter, Grease and Wicked, although I do dislike them, should never be mentioned over the likes of Cry-Baby or Young Frankenstein...
