As I was planning my Winter Broadway plans, I realized that Washington, Jackson, and Hamilton are grinning a lot more than usual in my wallet. I am trying to balance what I need with what I want.I am going to have to cutback on a lot of things. Some significant cut backs I have made are going out to eat, Going to the movies, traveling, music, going out with friends, and child support (jk).
What other sacrifices have you made to keep up with the Great White Way? Or who has cut back on Broadway in general?

Mostly my bank account, but it's SOOOOOOO worth it.
Actually, I've asked my partner to forgo tangible presents on my birthday and Christmas and just give me cash for shows.
I do tend to bunch shows in groups of three or four on weekend trips every couple of months and make the most of TKTS, discount codes, general rush, lotto, lotto loser and the like. I can't remember the last time I paid full price for a show.
Actually, I can..."Equus." We thought it was going to be a lot bigger than it actually was. I mean popularity wise....:)
About $250 out of my nest egg saving for a car...

Money, sleep, and 13 hours on 4 buses (roundtrip) from NH and back, to see "Next to Normal" last night. Just got home and I can tell you without hesitation, it was worth it. I am so grateful I got the chance to see such an incredibly gorgeous, powerful, moving, beatifully done piece. Knew and loved the music ahead of time via CD, but seeing/experiencing it live blew me away.
Well, West End rather than Broadway, but still.
Money, time, and sleep, predominantly. But then, is it really a sacrifice when you're happy to give it up in exchange for tickets? I haven't been to the cinema for a long long time, but I don't miss it. I don't buy as many books as I used to, but it's not like I don't have a bedroom full of 'em anyway.
I'll tell you what is a sacrifice; because I spend all my spare money on tickets, I have none left to buy this fabulous coat I want. Now *that* makes me sad.

in the past, as I was on stage, I would try get invites from friends who were in shows, otherwise I would have not been able to watch many (this is all over the world, for some (not so)strange reason, musicals are expensive anywhere in the world)
I have done like many here said too: not eating out, not buying new clothes/shoes/stuff, and have a tin where we empty our pockets of coins every end of the day...you would be surprised on how much one can save this way.
Now we have the (in some ironic way) blessing that, as I had to be registered as disabled, here the West End and iof West End theatres give us, the most, half price for two tickets, also get super great seats....
there are a few schemes here in the UK to incentive kids going to theatres in the UK, which we are on the mailing list, therefore (my daughter is 14, we got in when she was 7) we have watched many shows for free, some for £5 instead of £60...
But I know my daughter will give up her allowance many weeks to be able to see musicals...we definitely think it;s worth it :)
dignity.
I guess I can say I sacraficed living expenses for a few months to fly in to see "August: Osage County" in December of 2006. I really shouldn't have done it but I was bound and determined to see it. I snagged a discount ticket ahead of time but it was the flight and expenses while I was in NYC that stressed my account. But I didn't care.
Not much. I live pretty cheaply as it is and don't have other expensive tastes (except in food!).
I saw this post right when it was above a post about Patti LuPone in Women on the Verge. I misread the two posts together, adn saw the title as "What have you sacrificed to Patti LuPone?"
I sacrificed my relationship to 'Allen', -shrink to the 'stars'. We saw Next to Normal opening weekend on Broadway. We had first row seats for the matinee. I thought her doctor was a creep, a fake, a quack. Allen took it personally, saying I could never respect his career! We broke up over lunch, though we still had seats for Exit the King that night. Hell, I wans't going to miss it. When Susan Sarandon said to the king-" NEVER LOOK BACK WHEN YOU KNOW IT'S OVER!". Well, I didn't. My good doctor was a quack!
I think I've given up my tolerance for whiners. After several fiascos I just came to the conclusion that I'm never inviting anyone to see a show with me again.

I haven't been to the movies in over two years, whenever I eat out I try to order the least expensive thing that I like, specifically when I eat in the theater district I go to places like YumYum Bangkok that have $7 multiple-course price fix specials, I don't buy stuff I don't need (for example, I've had the same Ipod for about 5 years thst I got as a gift), I usually go to shows by myself, I don't drink or party, etc...
"What have you sacrificed to Patti LuPone?"
That's an entirely different thread. I'll have to consult my spreadsheet.

Just money but it ends up being worth it. I've never lost any friends from it or anything like that, haha.

Human sacrifice to the great god Baal. Drastic sure, but I did get those SOUTH PACIFIC tickets for closing night.
The worst thing I ever did was continue to date someone cause I knew they bought me a weekend in NYC and show for Friday, Two Saturday and One Sunday for my birthday a bunch of years ago. I am not proud but I did get to see AIDA, Chicago, Noises Off, and Thou Shalt Not that time. (And I probably slept with the person that weekend in the process)

Hotel prices. Although I live within comuting distance, occasionally it's nice to book a room and hang out and do other stuff. Even in this crapy economy prices are up through the roof in NYC. I remember not too many years ago getting into the Edison or the BW Pres for $119 or $149. In the high $200's now.
Seeing N2N and PeeWee next week, and want to take in that bamboo thing at the musium, so here goes another splurge.
