The birth of Cubby Bernstein?
I've always thought a musical based on the life of Mary, Queen of the Scots would be fascinating. The more I've read about her life and reign, the more interesting I realize she is. There is quite the colorful cast of characters.
Another would be a musical about Louis and Marie Antoinette during the French Revolution. Marie Antoinette, in particular, is a fascinating historical figure.

French Student Revolutions
The signing of the declaration of independence.
But seriously.
I feel like we need a good Vietnam musical, maybe dealing with student opposition or domestic life.
Springtime for Hitler: A Gay Romp With Eva and Adolf at Berchtesgaden
In a different thread some time back someone had mentioned the meeting between Grant and Lee that ended the Civil War. Yes, there was a Civil War musical already but one detailing the days leading up to this true event could really work if the right people were behind it.

I'm still all for Phineas Gage: The Musical. If you count that as a historical event, that is.
I want to write a musical about all the people who were turned away from the Hairspray movie preview WHEN THEY HAD TICKETS!!!
Oh, the HORROR!

How about Walt Disney? Such a fascinating man, it's a shame the Disney company hasn't done anything yet.
That one girl's best 3 mineutes and 23 seconds!!!
How about a musical based on the Chorus Line lotto "rigging" by cast members?????
Or the Legally Blonde/ Haven Burton as Elle rush line drama???????????
The Great Flood, performed by Cirque Soleil and called "O Noah".
The story of Heidi Fleiss titled "Call Me, Madam".
The invention of the game of croquet -- call it "Wicket".
The development of the surrealist art movement called "Hello, Dali".
Elvis Presley's venture into the mythological movie genre and the story of the Cyclops -- called "The King and Eye".
The story of the development of Elevator Music called (are you ready?) The Muzak Man.
I think a musical about the Trail of Tears would be good.
The behind the scenes making of the "Beatles". I know it sounds all too Jersey Boys, but there are some great stories of the Fab Four, and incredible music - if Michael Jackson would part with it for the score.
It would have 'legs' as a tour show and a real powerhouse on Broadway.
Several years ago I was mesmerized by a painting "The Execution of Lady Jane Grey" - then read the story of England's 'nine day queen'.

Riveting, and so very sad. This would be a fabulous epic musical. Betrayal, love lost, a country turning against her, imprisoned in the Tower of London until her execution at a tender age - I think 16 or 17?
