She's not new, by any means, but my vote goes to Rachel York as Eva Peron. She can sing the roof off of the theater, she can ACT, she can dance, she has the looks, the vitality, the charisma, the endurance, and she can handle the age transition.
She also is a proven leading lady. Witness her work in "Kiss Me, Kate" and the TV movie "Lucy." This woman is TALENTED. The role of Eva Peron would finally make her the star she deserves to be.

Felicia Finley got very good reviews when she played Eva earlier this year. This would be the perfect part for Julia Murneys Broadway debut. Kerry Butler's voice is nowhere near strong enough to play this part. I would love to see Lauren Kennedy play this part too.
I could almost see Sherie doing it. The girl can sing. But when she starts to belt it can get irritating.
my heart goes out to the casting director.
and while i dont know if sherie rene scott is right for eva, she seemed to do very well in the dramatic moments in l5y.
and no to heather hedley- i think she is amazing, but that goes well beyond miss-casting.

I second Marin Mazzie. Listen to her in Back To Before from Ragtime, she's a powerhouse!
Kerry Butler, Chenoweth, and Idina are so wrong for the part, I can see them actually being considered for it. My choices, though most have been said:
Julia Murney
Carolee
Marin Mazzie
Amy Bodnar
Natalie Toro (she was awesome in the Evita tour with Esparza)
Ruthie Henshall
Charles Busch
"I wash my face, then drink beer, then I weep. Say a prayer and induce insincere self-abuse, till I'm fast asleep"- In Trousers
I saw Natalie Toro as Eponine - she blew me away.
Alice Ripley or Marin Mazzie are my votes. Both of these women have a belt/mix that can hit those notes without screaching and these women can act circles around most broadway "divas" now.

I think Rachel York would be fabulous... possibly Felicia and Alice, but Rachel would be my first choice.
I love most of the other people listed, but I think they all either have the wrong voice or wrong look...
Well, most of these women would do fine jobs. But I also saw Esparza as Che and would love to see him in that role again.

RACHEL YORK! lovesclassics, i definitely agree with you. she is soooo talented!
Clearly, no one typed in "search" so you're all still spewing nonsense, as well as the typical flavor of the week crap, but I digress. Keep in mind that Peron was in her EARLY 30's when she died so it can't be Alice Ripley, Rachel York,Emily Skinner, etc... They're simply too long in the tooth now and certainly will be by the time this gets around to Broadway, which may be never.
Whoever plays Evita.......I believe should be a triple threat! I just know names of these 2 specific gals - Never seen them perform! Just know Kristen Chenoweth was in YAGMCB, and Idina Menzel(RENT,AIDA) but can these two dance well? Just wondering! I don't know if Patti Lupone danced heavily in the show...Hehe. But say If I were a choreographer/Director of a production of EVITA, the female would be dancing her butt off as well as singing/acting! Updated On: 8/21/04 at 02:06 PM

AlDente,
Rachel York is only 33, so she is definitely still in the age range for Eva Peron. Plus, within the past year she played the young war bride in "Summer of '42" and was totally believable. Stage make-up, hair, and good ACTING can all compensate for actual age. Don't forget, in "Lucy" Rachel York aged from 21 to 50 almost imperceptibly. I think she'd be ideal for Eva. Her voice has the range and power, she has the right look, and she is magnetic on stage. Whoever plays Eva has to command that stage. Rachel York has all the qualifications, including the dancing ability.

Well, he is not quite there vocally but he is totally there in the charisma dept. Hugh Jackman would make a wonderful Eva.
for crying out loud...Madonna has already "been there, done that".

Al Dente,
I remember reading in Playbill online earlier this year that Andrew Lloyd Webber and Cameron MacIntosh are collaborating to bring EVITA back to Broadway in 2005. Andrew Gans solicited casting opinions for his column and he was deluged with suggestions.

Evita was supposed to come back afew years ago, but they decided on SUPERSTAR instead.
was that the "New and Improved" SUPERSTAR with Glenn Carter?
If Rachel york is 33, than I'm the Easter bunny. I'd never go out of my way to praise lady Chenoweth but York could play her mother and according to you, she's 4 yrs Cheno's junior. Shocking, really.
