Josh, you totally got to that clip of "If You Could See Her" from my "Suddenly Seymour" link in the other thread, didn't you? It's crazy the stuff you'll find on there.
Anyway, I sort of wish that Adam didn't have such an aversion to Jesus Christ, Superstar... I agree that it seems like it would actually be a good fit for him, either as Jesus or Judas. Freddie in Chess was a good role for him. Otherwise, I think he's better off originating parts in new musicals so that he doesn't need his voice to fit a certain mold.

Well, I know around the time RENT opened - most of the leads thought they were on their way to pop careers and thought they'd never be back on Broadway...little did they know. So maybe he's changed his mind.
There's a difference between accepting Broadway/musical theatre as your main career versus agreeing to star in a show you dislike. Unless he drastically changed his mind on the subject of JCS, I highly doubt he would agree to it.
That said, I think his voice is absolutely perfect for the role. As I (along with others) have stated various times, I'd love to see him as Freddie in a revival of Chess, but his voice is just that much more perfect for Judas. Oh well.
And pianoman, he apparently explicitly said that he wouldn't get naked for Aida (back when the script called for it). So unless he's changed his mind on THAT issue...

It's an obvious choice, but I think he'd make an interesting Tommy. I also think he'd be good as Chris in Miss Saigon, but it's a boring role. I was very disappointed with his Freddy. I thought it would be a slam dunk and it was not (but Raul stole that entire concert). Maybe after a lengthy rehearsal process he could master Freddy.
Unfortunately the rock quality of his voice really precludes more classical shows, unless, like Cabaret, they are creatively re-imagined. But it's that rock quality (what I call "the growl" in his voice) that makes him unique, so...hopefully something new will come along that he'll be right for again. Imo, he's got one of the best rock singing voices ever.

This'll never happen, but I really would love to see him play Hedwig.
Did he apparently audition for that? Someone mentioned that he auditioned for that and Anthony also auditioned for the Emcee in Cabaret but Adam got Emcee and Anthony got Hedwig... the idea intrigued me. I'm not sure if it actually happened, but either way, it'd be interesting to see how he'd do the role.
Also agreeing with all of the people who said Freddie in Chess. His voice is perfect for it.

I'd love to see him in JCS, as mentioned many times previously.
I'm also loving the idea of him as Jaime in L5Y (and loving Emcee's idea even more - JULIA!)
Adam is... unique, that's for sure.
And Anthony as the Emcee? I can so see that!

I'd love to see him in something NEW, so I echo those sentiments
That said, I really could see him as the lead in The Fix... Dempsey and Rowe need to cross the pond (The Fix and Witches of Eastwick could both be great in America, in the right hands)

Posted: 2/17/06 at 4:26pmI doubt Adam auditioned for that same production of Hedwig. I can't imagine Adam staying in Pittsburgh to do a regional show.

As far as the Hedwig story goes, from what I've remember he was asked to audition for Hedwig to be Michael Cerveris' replacement but didn't even audition.
Anthony did Hedwig in Pittsburgh/Hartford at least 4 years after that incident would've happend.

I've been entertaining the idea of him as Freddy in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Let him get a bit more into that crude and hilarious sense of humor he showed in Cabaret.
I also think he'd make a good Billy Flynn, oozing charm. Maybe Hedwig (that could be because I think he would look good all glammed up), for the rock and roll side of him.
I don't care what role he's in, I just want to see him back on Broadway.

thejcm, that's what I meant. The previous comment made it seem like they both auditioned for the same productions and each got one.

I don't think Freddy is at all similar to the Emcee. It's a different kind of humor, and far, far more crude. Cabaret is risque, but not... just not like that.
He's a funny PERSON, but I don't think he's a particularly funny ACTOR. Comedy doesn't seem his forte.

I'm still pissed that Joey Fat One had to close "Little Shop" because I would have killed to see Adam's Seymour....just out of morbid curiosity.
But I have to agree that I think something new would be best. But maybe that's just because I don't feel like having to sit through "Chicago" again lol.
Mmm I don't know about Freddy. It's really hard for me to imagine anyone but Norbert right now. But I'm going to go entertain the idea for a little bit too, incendiary_wit.
