There's recently been a lot of talk around Smash, Megan Hilty and Katharine McPhee hinting that something could be happening in the future. The only thing I can think of right now is that they'll bring it to some streaming platform. Would they really do a reboot or season 3 right now? Any theories?

A reboot or something with Bombshell could be so fun! Will & Grace final season starts airing Thursday so Debra should be done shooting that soon? Just texted her number she gives out to ask but not expecting reply lol

I would enjoy a reboot also but it was canceled after two seasons for low ratings, why do a reboot of a show that was basically a failure? The reboots of other series were shows that were major hits and even those reboots are not doing well. I think there would be better luck with actually making "Bombshell" a Broadway show. The music is excellent and it is just whether people would care about another Marilyn Monroe story.

In addition to low ratings, Smash was also not a critical darling in any form, as opposed to some of the shows that have been rebooted, and was a massively expensive series to produce as well. It has not built up anything more than a minority fringe following since going off the air and there is absolutely zero impetus for any network or streaming platform to pick it up to continue and/or reboot it.

So do you think they're just stringing us along so more people will discover it without actually bringing it back in any form?

Sad but true -lol. The show had a huge cast for a TV series and needed not only writers of the show but writers for the music. Like I said in my other post, better chance of them trying to make "Bombshell" work as a Broadway show than a reboot of the TV series.

Do you think a stage adaptation of Bombshell could see the Broadway stage? I know it's been rumored for years....but who on earth would you cast as Marilyn? Would Megan Hilty even consider it? So many factors....
I think its more that peopme wont stop asking them questions about Smash. Lord it was not good.

What did you not like about it? **Not trying to start anything. I promise. I'm genuinely curious.

I can't imagine an actor would hint at something that wasn't actually happening.
With NBC coming out with their own streaming platform soon, I could see them rebooting this for that. Just to attract more people to it.

I hope this is sarcasm. Actors drop vague hints about projects that never materialize all the time. Look how many times Kristen Chenoweth has hinted at some new Broadway project or another. If all of those had happened she'd never be absent from the Great White Way.
No one watched the show, it was very expensive, and everyone has moved on. So, nothing is going on with Smash. They would never reboot something they lost millions on.

But what could possibly be their motivation to exaggerate like that???
Yes, it was.

The music is excellent IMO and the "book" was pretty good but we would have to see more than what they showed on the show. The big question would be in today's world, would anyone care to see a show about a blonde bombshell from the 1950's. As for casting, I don't know why Megan Hilty would not consider it. It is a starring role and she obviously seems to love the music and the show.

The writing of the show (SMASH) and some of the story lines may have not been that great but I think most people agreed the music for "Bombshell" was pretty good. I liked some of the music from "Hit List" also but others may disagree with my opinion.
If Bombshell comes to the stage, I almost guarantee it’ll have the “two faces of Norma Jean double-casting;” the whole hook of the score is the way those two voices blend together into one much more powerful whole.
Everything we’ve heard since has basically hinged on “we can’t make the book work,” which suggests that they know it sounds good musically but can’t entirely figure out how to justify it in the show proper.

I’d watch a movie about a network that threw a ton of money and Broadway talent into a project and thoroughly screwed it up through micromanaging, inconsistent direction, and poor writing. And have the Coen brothers write and produce it with the same cast and same music. Yeah, I’d watch that.

...Oh my...I sincerely hope all this hype isn't just because of that. It's already available for streaming on the..NBC? website!!
