yeah, i also wouldnt say HIGH FIDELITY is a wildly popular movie- never heard of it before in my life!
but what i do say is CURTAINS goes to the Imperial and the show which owns my soul (just kidding, but I do love it a lot) keeps the Al Hirshfeld
thank you very much
:)
Yes, DRS has a closing date. It's on the news at the top of the forum and in a thread just below this one.

The producers of DRS just announced that the show will be closing September 3rd
catstagestud: DRS is closing on September 3rd. I'm not sure if High Fidelity has announced their dates yet.
I'll see it for Will Chase like any other Broadway fan. But also like any other Broadway fan I'll do the lotto or student rush or standing room.
I guess the rumors of the producers of WS looking for a star didn't come to anything if curtains is eyeing the theatre...
DRS closes September 3rd.
Previews for HIGH FIDELITY begin November 20, 2006 with an opening date of December 7, 2006
Any celebrity they get would probably not do more than a 3-4 month run. Like I said, CURTAINS is looking at opening late next spring. They could still conceivably bring in a celebrity to keep the show running until February/March.

Oh, for some reason I thought Curtains was aiming for a fall opening, like Grey Gardens or a Chorus Line.
No no. Spring. I suppose if WS called it quits before than, it might come in early, but I think it will hold on another month or so at least which makes any kind of 2006 opening unlikey. Not impossible, but unlikely. Besides, CURTAINS would be better to do a CHAPERONE and open close to the Tonys. Updated On: 8/17/06 at 08:31 PM

yeah, they should keep WEDDING SINGER open till March then I can see it one last time...
but i still rather have CURTAINS take another theatre- how about the Broadhurst once LES MIS has finished its run? or HIGH FIDELITY could wait, and CURTAINS could take the Imperial
anything to save WEDDING SINGER!

I've a huge fan of the movie "High Fidelity" and all of my friends are as well. I do top- five-lists with them all the time. I think most die hard broadway people probably don't know it because it's a movie about rock and roll but anyone who is a fan of John Cusack or Jack Black would know it. It was a WAY better movie than Wedding singer ( bring on the wrath). If the show is half as good as the movie I can't wait to see it.

Well if the rumors are correct (and I have no reason to believe they are), the Les Miz revival wil not be leaving the Broadhurst anytime soon.
Look at it this way: the sooner THE WEDDING SINGER closes, the sooner your high school or community theatre can do it!

haha, Michael Bennett :) yeah, too bad i dont do drama- maybe that'd be the exception! :P
but anyways, I thought LES MIS was a limited engagement in the first place, only for like 6 months or something...
My guess is HIGH FIDELITY...

HIGH FIDELITY is based on a novel which became a film favorite with John Cusack and Jack Black. It's about a man who wonders why he can't seem to settle down and revisits all of his exes until he realizes who he's truly meant to be with.
I'd love to see LES MIS change plans and head to the Imperial. It IS possible and might just happen. But I doubt it...

about a guy who owns a record store in chicago and his girlfriend dumps him because he hasn't really grown up and he hangs out with these music geeks (jack black etc) at his store all day talking about bands no one has ever heard of. So in order to get her back he revisits all his old relationships to figure out where he went wrong. There are some really funny characters in the movie ( tim robbins plays a long haired crisis counselor and catherine zeta jones plays one of the ex's). I think the movie came out about ten years ago- I saw it last year on DVD after a friend told me to.
Does anyone know if this musical is gonna have rock and roll in it ( a la "rent") or is it gonna sound like broadway music?

i'd bet a mix, from hearing about the story
okay, so HIGH FIDELITY can take the Imperial, but CURTAINS better back off from the Al Hirshfeld... or I will have to...do something
yeah
please stop
just please
I don't want to turn this into a hate thread for TWS so cut the $hit.
On the note of the thread, I'm so sad to see DRS close. I feel if they had O'Hurley post-Dancing then they may have had a longer run, but going from Lithgow/Pryce/Butz/Gleason to current was not a move to keep it open...

Close Wedding Singer now and put in a show with legit musical theatre composers!!! The Wedding Singer hyde on here is actually more annoying than any of the Wicked crap we've had to deal with. Wicked actually has some reason to stay open. Wedding Singer is just wasting a theatre with its crap parade.

From a financial standpoint, Wedding Singer won't last much longer and shouldn't.
However, I had much more fun at TWS than I did all the times I have seen WICKED.
If we are basing closings on artistic merit alone, there are a slew of shows that should close before TWS does:
Phantom
Beauty and Beast
Those two come to mind rather quickly...
PS - Just because you don't like a show doesn't mean others don't, and just because you don't like a show, doesn't mean it should close...
