It was a fun movie. ( High Fidelity) Thought TWS would last longer only cos Sandler's movies have such a high profile and fan base but course, those folks don't see B way shows! I hope this means the Eighties are finally dead!

See, I was thinking High Fidelity into Eugene ONeill...? No?

Spring Awakening is going into the O'Neill.
High Fidelity is one of my favorite movies but I am not at all excited for this musical. It is a terrible source for a musical.
I have yet to read the book...I'm just finishing "A Long Way Down" by Mr. Hornby...great book.
I think most die hard broadway people probably don't know it because it's a movie about rock and roll
So, Broadway fans don't listen to rock and roll?

I would imagine most die hard broadway people listen to jazz and classical rather than rock music. One could argue that most die hard rock and roll fans are NOT broadway fans. They come from two very different traditions. I happen to like both ( being a college student I have alot of different influences but RENT was really the show that got me interested in musicals) and there have been very very few musicals that I consider to be TRUE rock musicals. I have since gotten hooked on a few of sondheims shows ( sweeny todd rocks!) but I could name true rock musicals on both hands.
Also judging from the lack of familiarity by this message board of High Fidelity ( ask any rock fan about High Fidelity and they probably have seen it or know about it) and YES, I surmise most broadway fans DON"T listen to rock music. I would love to hear your thoughts.

How can a movie about love and music be a terrible source for a musical??!!!

Well, in the movie, John Cusack's charcter doesn't really "sing" to me. He's kind of mopey.
I would be suprised if Wedding Singer was sustained until the end of the year. It will have a life on tour, but I'd rather see something else go into the theater. I like the show, but I can't really get back into the Cast Recording, it isn't as good as I remember. That's not to say I think it's crap, but it's not as good as I remembered.

It's never safe to assume. I know plenty of die hard Broadway fans who love to listen to rock and roll. Stereotypes only help to destroy...not improve.

I personally feel anyone getting upset about the wedding singer closing early next year is being silly. I like the show too, but I say a)if I have seen or will still get a chance to see the show (on a tour maybe) and b) have a cast recording, then let them close so I can have another great show to enjoy. I am very excited about Curtains and I hope we can be more honest about what show may be going where without worrying about upseting someone (I know this isn't EXACTLY the point of this thread, but it was discussed here, so I posted)

well, i just wanted to say sorry about my immature WEDDING SINGER comments i posted a lot. just because i love the show doesnt give me reason to annoy people to death about it, so, im sorry
and anyways, about HIGH FIDELITY, i actually think it sounds like a potentially good musical, and about the comment about broadway fans (im not a diehard fan, but a broadway fan all the same) not listening to rock and roll, i also listen to plenty of rock and roll, pop, rap, and all that other junk, and never listen to classical music
but yeah, again, im sorry
High Fidelity i think will end up at The Imperial now - i think its a little too big for the show. I agree with Margo; strong reviews and Tonys are needed for this show to be a stayer; its now proving very hard for these type of musicals to stay on Broadway. I think the same for Legally Blonde at The Palace.
I heard Curtains is looking at replacing The Wedding Singer; i think the Wedding Singer may have just enough power to last until the end of the year.
Also heard Evita is looking at replacing Hairspray... that cannot happen!!

Les Mis would go back to the Imperial licketty-split. It would sell more in that lovely limited engagement given that it'd be a bigger house. And wow, sentimentals, anyone?
And then, at the very least without making too many complex fake-switches, High Fidelity would go into the Broadhurst. Will Chase likes it there, right? More like, smaller theatre, maybe they can fill it better - I really don't think it's a hit-in-the-making.
Anyone know/can someone bring me up to date - what's going into the following theatres: Music Box, Belasco, and Longacre?

If I were going to be sentimental about where the Les Miserables revival should play, I would pick The Broadway Theatre, where the show opened and where I saw it.
Ah, good idea. didn't even think of it.
For it to be in the Broadway, it would require: Color Purple to move to the Imperial, Les Mis to the Broadway, High Fidelity to the Broadhurst. But, we could still be "sentimental" for the Les Mis closing house without doing too many fake switches.

back to the original topic - how about Zhivago for the Imperial?
IT baffles me that I am getting so much heat for calling out The Wedding SInger for the piece of crap it is. YOu people have seen how many musicals, and you still can't see why the structure, form, and general execution of this show is amateur at best?
As another new show to open 06-07?
I believe it's more realistic for there to be fake-switches between already-slated-to-open shows.
Les Mis won't move. Tickets have been selling for some time at the Broadhurst, therefore the theatre is set.
