>Why does Curtains (a great show by the way. Just saw it) want to go into a theatre that is already occupied when they can just take an open theatre like the longacre, music box or belasco?<
Longacre is booked with Talk Radio, starring Liev Shrieber, and the Music Box is booked with The Vertical Hour, with Julianne Moore. The Belasco doesn't have a tenant that I know of.
However, all three of those theatres are too small (around 1000 seats) for Curtains, which will need a 1400-1600 seat theatre to run profitably.
Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end: then stop.
Can those who've stated on this thread that Curtains isn't opening till next Spring confirm where they got the info? Not that I doubt them, just that I'd like to know for sure because I'm coming to NY in Dec (from the UK) and was hoping to see the show then.
I'll be extremely disappointed if it's not slated to start till next year (though, on second thoughts, it would give me the excuse to plan yet another trip :->).
It seems quite a long hiatus for the show though - is that the norm for transferred-in productions? :-?
The Shuberts own the Belasco. Lincoln Center only owns the Beaumont and the Newhouse. They rented the house for their revival of AWAKE AND SING because the Beaumont was occupied with PIAZZA.
