re: What's Sutton gonna be up to next?

I thought i heard on this board that she's going to be taking a break. She's done 4 shows kind of consecutive.(Thoroughly Modern Millie, Drowsy Chaperone, Young Frankenstein, and Shrek.)

five, since you didn't list Little Women.
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain. -Kad

She deserves a break, she's kicked some major ass on Broadway. She has been nominated for every show she's been in except Young Frankenstein, that's not too shabby.

Sounds a little stalker-ish. She doesn't have to give explanation to us what she does with her private life...

The original poster was referring to her career, not her private life.

Good for her, she deserves a break. I'd like to see her in something again in the future.

Sutton was originally suppose depart "Shrek" around the time Brian and Daniel left, but she extended her contract though January. After that she will be taking a break.

No one can fault Foster for her accomplishments during the last 7 years and she deserves time off. I'd like to see her try something that's not true-to-form the next time out, not musical comedy or even a musical, just to see her stretch her abilities and try something new.

Me too fgreene, I'd love to see her do something totally different. But I would never say no to her doing another musical comedy. :)

And yes I was referring to her career. Her personal life is totally her own, I admire the fact that she's kept it to herself.

If Sutton is leaving in January are they holding auditions for her replacement soon or will they promote one of the understudies?

re: What's Sutton gonna be up to next?

Yup, I heard she was taking a well-deserved break. I also heard that she's only interested in originating roles now.

^ We talked about that on the Ben Crawford - Shrek board. General consensus was that we wanted Haven Burton to be promoted. :) Since Ben was promoted from standby, I think she's got a good chance.

"If Bonnie and Clyde gets of the ground I'm sure she'd take the part due to her brother's involvement."

Laura Osnes is going to play that role at the LaJolla Playhouse this fall.

She seems to have a really strong voice, and it hasn't gotten messed up from doing the Gingy/Sugar Plum Fairy voices 8 shows a week. I think she could handle it vocally. Her dancing still needs work, though she's improved a lot since Legally Blonde.

^This is the Wildhorn version, not the Hunter Foster version.

I've heard Lauren Kennedy is replacing Sutton...but that was when Sutton was still leaving in November.

re: What's Sutton gonna be up to next?

Yeah, I saw Lauren Kennedy at her Shrek audition, so I assumed she was either replacing her, or being considered. I think she'd make a good fit.

Maybe it's because I'm a big fan, but I'd love to see Lauren Kennedy as Fiona. I mean, I'd rather see her finally get to originate a role, but she'd absolutely do the part more than justice.

From what I remember, someone saw Kennedy in the elevator at Ripley-Grier when SHREK auditions were going on and assumed that's what she was going in for.

She was also doing a reading around the same time, which is very well what she could have been there for.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

i had the pleasure of seeing Haven Burton go on twice and she did a great job. I wanted to see sutton of course but ended up seeing her twice. bad luck on the sutton thing, but Haven was great.

Lauren Kennedy....could they possibly pick a duller choice for Fiona? Good lord. She's possibly the blandest performer working today.

re: What's Sutton gonna be up to next?

Adamgreer, you already called Sutton Foster "about as exciting to watch onstage as paint drying" in another thread, and now you're calling Lauren Kennedy dull and bland as a potential replacement for the role. Do you have another more exciting choice to suggest? Otherwise it just seems like you're a bitter Betty.
