Yes, Haven Burton would be a much more interesting, exciting choice.
I said it in another thread, but I think that she should position herself to play Petra in the Little Night Revival.
She would get to play a little more with her sexiness instead of being the spunky heroine. And I think she would sing the crap out of the Miller's Son.
But I know it is a long shot, since it would be a downgrade to a "supporting" role (even though Petra is unquestionably a show-stealing role) But I think it would be a really great choice for her.
I saw Sutton last week at Dylan's Candy Bar on the UES talking with a nice little girl and two adults.
No one recognized Sutton; although this was not surprising as she is NOT a star.
How many people bought her CD? The girl is just lucky, that's all. She has not one ounce of charisma. Just that Karen Ziemba smile like she is on a Noxzema commercial.

Leigh Ann Larkin has already been cast as Petra in the revival of A Little Night Music.
" I'd love to see her do something totally different."
Me too-like retail, maybe.

Sutton has done supporting roles, such as Janet in the Drowsy Chaperone. I believe she stated in an interview one time that she likes doing ensemble pieces where she does not have the weight of the show on her shoulders like she did with Millie. It wouldn't be a downgrade for her.
millie_dillmount, I am not sure that I would call the role of Janet Van Der Graff a supporting role.
Yes, you are kind of right - they petitioned for Sutton Foster to receive a nomination in the "leading actress" category, but in Drowsy Chaperone, she was not the main focus of the show as she was in Millie. Her taking any supporting roles in a musical would not necessarily be a step down for her career.
I think she is nominated in the leading actress category because she is talented and within the theater community, quite popular. Personally, I see Fiona and Janet as more featured roles. Producers had to petition for her to be considered in the leading category because her name was not billed above the title. If they hadn't, she would have been nominated under supporting, obviously.

She is in the theater world (but nowhere else). I'd put her more into the 'not a celebrity' category. If you sent her to Hollywood, she'd be completely ignored by the paps.
