I am surprised that no one has created a musical based on the cult film "Times Square" from 1980. The two lead characters, Nicky Marotta and Pamela Pearl, could so easily have songs written around them. With the success of "American Idiot", "Times Square" could easily be adapted into a musical. The storyline has a punk rock ethic and the father of the Pamela Pearl character is behind the revitalization of Times Square (and the building of the Marriott Marquis), while the two girls represent the gritty side of New York.

It's not an 80s movie, but Julie Taymor must direct "Apocalypse Now, The Musical".

And of course Rob Marshall will do "All That Jazz, The Stage Musical" with none of the Fosse choreography. (Ok, not an 80s movie either)
