My dad and his girlfriend are coming in Friday. His girlfriend asked that I get them tickets to Legally Blonde... so my dad will be suffering through that on Friday night. My dad called me last night to let me know I could buy tickets for all 3 of us to a show on Saturday night. I'm looking at shows now. Which of the following do you think I should go with?
August Osage County (Is it really as long as people say it is? That's my dad's biggest concern)
or
Boeing Boeing (how is the current cast? Does anyone know?)
Thanks in advance!

If you're just looking for a good time, I would vote for Boeing. I absolutely loved it. As long as they've got Mark, you don't need to worry about the cast.
I haven't seen August, though, so I realize I am not the wisest one to answer...

Are there any discounts for Gypsy?
*edit* Stupid me. It's right in front of me on theatermania. I forget that the show is called PATTI LUPONE gypsy. My bad.

AUGUST is brilliant, the best straight play on Broadway in years. But yes, it is around three and a half hours. Honestly though, the show whizzes by and it feels shorter than most two and a half hour or even ninety minute shows that I've seen lately. It's absolutely a must-see.
BOEING-BOEING, I found to be fluff. Overrated, not really that funny, and it kinda just is your humor or not. And it wasn't really my taste of humor. Although the women I saw were all fantastic and I'm hearing great things about this new cast.
To echo Dolly's sentiments though, I would take GYPSY into consideration. Unless you want them to see a play...ALL MY SONS is great too.

You could also rush it if you bring a friend with another student I.D. and get front row seats the day of.
But if you do that, I actually recommend waiting until they're only selling the seats they stamp as "partial view." They aren't partial view at all and they're actually better seats than the front row seats which they give away first...by far.
The rush is two tickets per I.D. so you'd have to bring a friend and I believe they're $27 each.

Whatever you do though, don't buy the balcony tickets for GYPSY.
Terrible seats.

I've seen Boeing Boeing before--and I wasn't completely in love with it when I saw it. I enjoyed it--but I wasn't in love with it. I noticed that it seems to appeal more to mature crowds (which my dad and his girlfriend, who are in their early 60's would fit into that group), which is why I ask about that one.
and I got box seats for Gypsy once with student rush the first time I saw it. Never again.

Of your two choices I think Boeing-Boeing might be the better option.
Another suggestion is The Marvelous Wonderettes. I got my mom tickets for Christmas and she's close to your dad and girlfriend's ages. I have no doubt that she'll love it. When I went I think I may have been one of the youngest people in the audience but I still got a kick out of the show.

Posted: 10/13/08 at 1:33pmI loved Boeing-Boeing and I'm 23. I brought my aunt and uncle the 2nd time (they are about 70) and they loved it too. I haven't seen the new cast but the show itself (and Mark Rylance) are amazingly funny.

Posted: 10/13/08 at 1:39pmFor Boeing Boeing, there are tickets available for the front row on the left. The 3 seats--are those good seats or would they be obstructed view at all?
#13re: What should I take my parents to?
Posted: 10/13/08 at 1:51pmi haven't seen either of those, but i would have said Gypsy.
Cages or wings? Which do you prefer? Ask the birds. Fear or love, baby? Don't say the answer Actions speak louder than words. (Tick, Tick... BOOM!)

My parents saw Boeing Boeing and thought it was very funny.
They sell Box seats for $20. My parents got those and said the view was fine
They also have $36.50 rear balcony I hear if they're not sold out they let u move down to the front balcony which I think it's $51.50
Hope I helped

agreet WishingOnlyWounds... Young Frankenstein???
And sadly, you won't be able to get 3 tickets for South Pacific. Even 1 is difficult!
I have yet to see those 3, which I am going to try within the next few weeks!

Posted: 10/13/08 at 3:13pmAugust is very well paced and goes by very quickly, so if your dad's only concern is the show's length, I wouldn't let that prevent you from seeing it. In fact, for me it went by a lot more quickly than Boeing-Boeing (and certainly a lot more so than Legally Bad-I mean Blonde).

Posted: 10/13/08 at 3:23pmAugust flies by. I wanted a fourth act! There's not a dull moment in the whole piece. This is coming from someone who hates sitting through long plays.

Alright, so the discount code I tried to use for Gypsy stopped working intbetween when I checked online and when I went to the actual box office, so I ended up paying full price for seats in the back of the balcony. I completely forgot about student rush.
Well, turns out--my order has not been processed because they don't have the correct address for my credit card. If I don't call them back, will they release my tickets right before the show begins or is there a way for them to still charge me? I personally think 85 dollars or so for individual tickets in the BACK of the balcony is kind of ridiculous.
How is Gypsy's rush for Saturday evenings?

August August August
Time is an issue for my father as well and he said, and I quote, "Wow. That was incredible." after the show.
