Seeking an exciting theatrical experience!
I was in Ragtime with a community theatre where I live, and it is THE BEST MUSICAL EVER!!! It's on the depressing side (like in a Les Mis kind of way), but it's also very inspireing. The music is phenomenal! The lyrics are so personal; it's amazing to watch the characters struggle through everything, and fight to change the country.
Anyways, if you want more info or have any questions, holler at me.
Ragtime is also a book by the way; if you want to know what the musical is about, the book is a good source.
Oh my gosh, it's like the most emotional experience I've ever had!

I was in this one!
Ragtime.
I recommend Ragtime. I saw the production that is transferring to Broadway when it was at the Kennedy Center, and it was such a perfect marriage of cast, staging, and material. But I haven't seen FELA, so my opinion isn't totally valid.
Princessariel, your production is also really well-done for community theatre! Wish I could've been there!

Neither. People who can't make up their own damn mind what show to see deserve no theater at all.
The music styles of these two shows are as different as night and day so your own personal taste would have a lot to do with your enjoyment factor. I haven't seen Fela! but I have heard recordings of Fela Kuti and I saw this production of Ragtime when it was in DC. Based on MY personal taste, I'd say Ragtime. Fela has a LOT of avid followers who would readily disagree with me though!

Ragtime!!
I'm not familiar with Fela! (other than the BoB performance, which did not impress me), but I can't imagine much of anything being better than Ragtime. I was also in a production of Ragtime in HS, and it was one of the best experiences of my life!
My production's Act I Finale (Till We Reach That Day)
I don't know anything about Fela! other than the Broadway on Broadway performance which didn't impress me too much, but I did see the production of Ragtime that is moving here at the Kennedy Center and it was really beautifully done. Ragtime is one of my favorite shows ever though so I am very, very biased.
Although I cannot speak for either production, I have seen both shows. I love both of them. As far as the shows are concerned, you cannot go wrong with either one.
