She opens The Crucible the night after the Academy Awards. Is She skipping the Oscars? She has a lot of potential to win the Academy Award for Best Actress....I wonder what she will do.

I'm not asking if it's the norm to do it, I'm wondering what she will actually do or what she has in her contract.

Well, she doesn't "open" the day after the Academy Awards, she starts previews. I also don't think she necessarily has "a lot of potential", I think Brie Larson is the one to beat at the moment. That being said, they have probably worked it into their schedule to fly her to California for the day.
I would assume she will be going to the ceremony. I'm sure the producers won't mind as it's fantastic exposure for her and will ultimately (hopefully) get more people into the theater to check her out.

Brie Larson is the one to beat right now but Ronan is definitely not that far behind. So yes I would say she has a lot of potential to win.
She's the dark horse in the category, as I'm pretty sure it'll go to Larson.
But to answer your question, it's up in the air. She would probably have to clear things with scheduling and maybe miss last minute rehearsals if she did go. She seems pretty nervous about the show though, so my guess would be that'd she'd skip the Oscars.
I guess we'll find out.

Here's your answer: she'll either go to the Oscars and be back the next day, or she won't go. That's it.
Rylance has a performance on the day of the Oscars, so if Ronan does stay in NY, she won't be the only nominee to do so. Still, as others have said, it certainly isn't impossible for her to fly out the day of the ceremony and fly back the next day in time for their first preview. I wouldn't envy her flight schedule, but then again I don't have an Oscar-nomination and a starring role in a Broadway show to console me
I wonder how they would work that out with tech if Ronan does attend the awards. Would they have their final dress the day before the Oscars and take Oscar sunday off? Or would they have Ronan's understudy do the final dress (I also don't really know how tech schedules work on Broadway, in case it isn't clear).
I've heard stories of these big machines that can transport people from one coast to the other in 3 hours through the air.
Of course she's going to the Oscars. And of course she'll be back for her first preview.

They would have done it already. Nominations have been out for several weeks, and even before they were out they probably could have anticipated her getting a nomination.
^ Exactly. I'm sure her agents worked it out contractually that she'd be attending- it would be foolish of her not to since she actually has a chance of winning.
I'm pretty sure that St. Ann's cancelled both shows of NICE FISH on the 28th and that Rylance is attending the ceremony. If you attempt to buy tickets for that day the website states that "this performance is not available for sale." None of the other performances have that issue.

Ah, you're right. I hadn't noticed that. I just assumed since they had that day listed as one of the options that they would have both of those performances.
The oscars end around 8p pst, she could go to a few parties and still be in NYC by 5am. I don't think it's a big deal.

commercial red eye flights don't get into NYC until around 7:00am at the earliest but okay... close enough, I guess.

She's really not close to being a frontrunner. I think she will just do the show, not show up to the awards. They will be crazy this year with all the lack of diversity stuff, so she wont be missing much, just Larson winning for Room.

it is all relative to the subject in question. if she lived in a third world country, she would clearly have different problems. this is such a ridiculous argument not based in any sense of reality or logic. what a futile way of thinking... just my two cents
