So, where does Lin-Manuel Miranda go from here?
I don't for a second think that he's "done", but will he ever be able to equal what he's accomplished this season? Will everything he does in the future be judged with Hamilton as the benchmark?

I don't know. Hamilton is so much better than In the Heights, albeit he was much younger and less experienced and he didn't write the book. I hope he can live upto it.
Didn't people ask this very same question or one very similar to it after In The Heights?

yes
I'd like to see him do The Great Gatsby.
Hopefully a long vacation. He must be exhausted.

Don't know... did they? If they did, I can't help but feel it was probably more in the context of "what's next?" (because he demonstrated talent).

"Is he a one hit wonder?" is a completely different question.

Not really. It has the same connotation.

The view's not exactly clear.
A shame he did it all at thirty-six.
He was just a backstreet boy, hustling and fighting, scratching and biting...
I think the sentiment behind both questions is similar, though. Each of them is using his success from a certain point in time for measuring his future accomplishments.

Stephen Sondheim. Calm down. What's going to happen will happen.
Where does he go? On vacation, I hope. Or a well deserved spa break. Poor man looks exhausted.
But you know, after that, I'm sure something wonderful. ![]()

Let's hope he gets off his ego trip and gets back to doing more work like the superior work he did for In The Heights. Hamilton, even though an overly hyped mess pails in comparison to the work of In The Heights where there was true heart and genuine soul.
in what way is Hamilton a mess...
icecreambenjamin, that was the supposed plot of season 3 of Smash!
I hope it's another original show. Which, as soon as he's done July 9th and hopefully takes a long vacation, he starts working on right away. He's got a few movies ahead of him, I can see him becoming the third person ever to PEGOT (following Richard Rodgers and Marvin Hamlisch, Sondheim is the only other living person with 4 of the 5) next February for Moana. I can't wait to see whatever he does next

Lin Manuel Miranda ia anything but on an ego trip. This post right here is a perfect example of the pettiness I was referring to on the Tony Award thread. It has no basis in fact. It is the rantings of a jealous, disgruntled hater who can't stand that someone is enjoying success on a level they fail to understand.
Lin Manuel Miranda had been nothing but humble about the success he has been blessed with. You dream, you DO THE WORK and you reap the fruits of your labor. Don't begrudge someone for making it on sheer hard work and talent.
His work on both IN THE HEIGHTS and HAMILTON came from his true heart and soul.
But stay miserable. Hope that's working wonders for you.

Didn't he say he had an idea for a musical not too long ago? Maybe I'm making that up
I'd love to see LMM write a musical based on the movie "Lincoln," about getting the 15th amendment tthrough Congress. If he wants to be really bold, POC can play Lincoln, Congress, etc. and white people can play slaves and free blacks.
Audrey
that might be a little on the nose.
i believe he did recently say he had an idea, and that it wasn't related to politics in any way.
I can't wait to see!
I think I would probably prefer something more in the HEIGHTS vein than HAMILTON but honestly his next stage project will probably be something different from them both.
I'm going to doubt he stays on the historical path....and who could blame him? Everyone, everywhere, would accuse him of relying on his famous formula.
his famous formula is using rap in musicals I think (I guess that's maybe not a formula technically. some people think of it as a gimmick)
Even though he won't, I would love to see him work on reinventing something in the musical canon (Carousel, Music Man, whatever) so that it is contemporary.
I imagine Wells Fargo, or Bank of America...
