Forgive me. I know Which Show Should I See? threads are passé, but now that my plan to return to TGC in December looks all but doomed I figure the best I can do to cheer myself up is turn my attention to other shows playing this winter. So, what matinee to see when I'm in NYC on December 16?
I've already purchased Band's Visit tickets for that evening. I've already seen and loved Hamilton, Book of Mormon, and DEH. I saw Wicked and wasn't impressed. Good seats to see Bette in Hello Dolly! are a bit out of my price range. CFA just doesn't pique my interest. GHD and Bandstand may not survive the summer. So, Once on This Island?
All that said, I'm not at all opposed to seeing a play. What early thoughts do folks have about Farinelli and the King?
That Steve Martin play?
Go see Dolly with Donna, if you're okay with not seeing Bette. Prices are fantastic for a great show + cast. Other than that, maybe something like Anastasia (a favorite of mine) or Once? It isn't really a standout imo but if it's available then I'd say go for it.
^The date the OP provided is not a Donna Murphy date.
to the OP: I don't know if you are familiar with Once on this Island. It's a very sweet show, but nothing earth shattering. Of course, not knowing THIS production, there isn't much else to be able to reccommend it or not. You might want to keep the spot open for a little bit just to see what else comes down the pike.
(Heck, I'm trying to decide what else to see in just 3 weeks time should Comet close on Ingrids last day.
^^ oops, I forgot what their date was. But still, if you have time in your schedule, I'd get some cheap mezz tickets. Other than Dolly, Anastasia, and Once, maybe Bandstand if it's still open? Probably not, but it really is a hidden jewel of a show.

If you don't mind waiting until the last minute, non-premium ($189-229) seats for Hello, Dolly! with Bette have been regularly popping up on Telecharge as the show dates approach. For example, right now, there are some great seats available for tonight and tomorrow. If I were you, I would leave that slot open, and try for Dolly! If that doesn't work, I'm sure you'll have other good last-minute options.

Yeah, there's orchestra aisle seats for this weekend in rows G and H available right now. They're still $240 but its pretty wild.
Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. Luckily I qualify for a TDF membership. Thinking of joining this fall and accepting whatever the universe provides. If the reviews aren't bad, might check out Once on This Island. Worst case scenario, I'll save my money for MFL or Carousel. ¯\_(?)_/¯
