Which Broadway Show Would You Recommend Between These 2?

Hello,
I might be taking a day trip to New York City in April and would only be able to see one show. I've narrowed it down to either Wicked or A Raisin In The Sun (big Audra McDonald fan, loved her in Ragtime). Although I don't know much about Wicked, I heard it was great.
It will take me 3-4 hours on the train to get to New York City so I want to make sure it's a show that is worthwhile. Here's a short list of some shows I have seen and enjoyed.
Rent
Aida
Ragtime
Lion King
The Producers
Phantom of the Opera
Miss Saigon
Cabaret
Chicago
42nd Street
The Life
Dreamgirls
Little Shop of Horrors
Bring in Da Noise, Bring in Da Funk
Stomp
Shows I didn't care for:
Cats
Urinetown
All opinions/suggestions are welcomed and greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Jim

Posted: 3/18/04 at 9:24pmWell, I think you'd like Wicked because it's so "big" in everything involved...but P. Diddy will be an unforgettable experience, for good or bad.

Posted: 3/18/04 at 9:24pmAre you kidding me? WICKED!!!!! It's truly spectacular, and, judging from all of the shows you did enjoy, this will become one of your very favorite musicals. I think you can skip Pimp Diddling in a role originated by the great Sidney Potier...it'll just be embarrsing..

I'd say Wicked... but keep in mind that Wicked is a musical and A Raisin in the Sun is a play.... so it depends what you're looking for in that area.
But, like several of the shows you say you liked, Wicked is a big, visual production..... it's a really great show, and seeing Idina, Kristin and Joel is such a wonderful treat!

soley based on the fact that you liked aida, ragtime, rent, and phantom...im gonna have to say WICKED without a doubt...it is a truly fabulous show with two wonderful leading ladies...and an incredible ensemble and cast of supporting actors...let us know what you decide in the end!
always,

Posted: 3/18/04 at 10:43pmWICKED no question. P. Diddy in "A Raisin In The Sun" would be like going to see Usama Bin Laden in "Fiddler on the Roof". It's just ridiculous what they'll do to sell tickets these days. Since Audra McDonald won't be singing I see no reason to see it just for her. I'd feel disappointed seeing her on stage and not getting to hear her sing. Go see WICKED. Idina Menzel is a God.

I'm sort of in the same boat as you Jim (see my thread on "Gah! Decisions...blah."). A million people told me to see Wicked, so I bought my tickets yesterday. I enjoy Audra McDonald too, but I've read Raisin In The Sun and I don't think it'll be as much of a "spectacle show" as Wicked seems to be, and judging by your favorite shows, that's what you're going for. So I'll say Wicked too. (On the official site www.wickedthemusical.com you can find sound clips too)

Definitely depends if you're looking to see a play or musical... honestly though, I'd go for Wicked.

Posted: 3/19/04 at 6:10amI would honestly have to see Wicked. They took a big risk with this show, and it has really paid off. For lack of a better term, this show is breathtaking.

Posted: 3/19/04 at 3:54pmDEFINATELY Wicked. It is an AMAZING show, with a stunning cast. Also, looking at the shows you have seen and liked, this looks like a very promising show for you. Whatever you choose, have fun!

Posted: 3/19/04 at 4:28pmGo see Wicked. Wait until Audra does another musical or go see her as Dot in Sunday in the Park With George in September at the Ravinia festival in Chicago.

I think we have the same taste, because most of the shows you mentioned, I really enjoyed them too. So, i'd definetely reccomend HAIRSPRAY which blew me away and became my absolute favorite. And since everybody is raving about WICKED, which i haven't seen unfortunately, why not go with those two and have a fantastic fun time ?
Take care

Definately go see WICKED. It's such a great show, and the acting is incredible! The music is so catchy, and it's one of the best shows I've seen (and I've seen MANY).
Crazy4MattMorrison52- I don't think Idina would be out- she hasn't missed a show yet (from what i've heard).
