I got two numbers from same show
"Something Wonderful" and "Finale" from THE KING AND I.
"S.W." is such a beautiful & haunting song - I love it. I know nothing much happens during that scene, but the song is simply just SO BEAUTIFUL. Just hearing the melody bring tears in my eyes. And the final scene where the Prince takes over and starts telling his siblings how to bow to him and the music ("Something Wonderful" of course) takes over covering the voices and Anna turns to the King and notices that he has passed away... SOBFEST!!!!!

A Little Fall of Rain-Les Miz
Goodbye Love- Rent
did reading this list and thinking about some of the stuff give you chills as well haha??
On my mind because i just listened to it:
Next from Pacific Overtures, specifically the revival, and specifically after the WWII bombing when the music sneaks back in. One of the greater moments in the theater of the past few years.

Yes- that was one of the moments when the revival briefly succeeded on every level. Truly chilling, and not in a nice way.

I can't pick just one!
1) The last fifteen minutes to Sweeney Todd
2) Children and Art (Sunday in the Park with George)
3) Another National Anthem (Assassins)
4) I Heard Someone Crying (The Secret Garden)
5) No One is Alone (Into the Woods)
EDIT: Whoo, stupid typos.

Ooh, I love your avatar, Color and Light! One of the best moments of my trip to London was walking into a room in the National Gallery and seeing "Une Baignade, Asnières" on the wall. "No Life" kept playing in my head, but disappointingly the boy in the painting didn't give me a raspberry. :)

Even though I'm not actually a big Les Mis fan "Javert's Suicide" gets me every time. Also, "He Wanted to Say" from Ragtime. Oh and "Nobody Needs to Know" from The Last Five Years.

Oh, that's wonderful, Plum!
I have to second "Tomorrow belongs to me."
It is even more disturbing in the movie, just watching the voices mount in number and volume.
I saw the national tour of Evita last week, and there are 2 from that show that get me every time (even when listening to the cast recording).
-During "Dice are rolling" right after Eva says "Oh, I shall be a great vice president" and the orchestra plays a piece from "I'd be suprisingly good for you"
-At the very end, when Che says "and Evita's body disappeared for 17 years."
Hmmm....Here are mine:
In...Phantom of the Opera...
- The beginning lines of "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again" always manages to give me chills, especially when the actress playing Christine has a killer lower register.
- I agree about "Point of No Return", just before Christine rips the Phantom's mask from his face, there is no room for speech. It is very intense.
- The entire finale sequence epecially when it is split into three parts between The Phantom, Raoul, and Christine.
In...Titanic...
- The entire lifeboat sequence gets me every time, as well as the finale. When the survivors take their places next to their lost loved ones and friends who died on the ship, it is such a powerful moment. I think basically the fact that you know the event actually happened is what gave the show its intense edge.
In...Secret Garden...
- Well, lol, I get chills for the most part during the entire show, it is so fabulously written and suited to the time period; amazingly haunting music!
In...Les Miserables...
- Javert's death scene and the Finale ALWAYS give me chills, or quickly bring a tear to my eye.
Ok...I have to say that Frank Wildhorn does do well with the chill factor! In Civil War, there is really no way that you couldn't have chills during "How Many Devils" as well as "The Glory". They are both gorgeous pieces, and in my opinion, Frank Wilhorn's best show musically! Jekyll and Hyde also has a few chilly moments, but one that sticks out is the whole sequence in which Lucy sings "A New Life"...Hyde murders her...And then the reprise of "Facade"; it's pretty sad and gripping stuff.
Other shows with chilling moments, numbers, etc., include:
- Into the Woods: Children Will Listen
- Miss Saigon: Like, the ENTIRE show, haha!
- Elisabeth Das Musical: One of the most gorgeous shows I have ever seen and heard. Sylvester Levay and Michael Kunze are an amazing team, and I hope that they bring one (or all) of their collaborations to New York soon!
Of course there are more show with their moments, lol, but my fingers kinda hurt...So maybe more will come eventually, hehe!
Later!
Phantom05
one song.....
it's a short song BUT...
it's gotta be:
The Mirror (Angel Of Music)
from "Phantom"
it's the first appearance of the Phantom and his opening lines are just SO spine-chilling!
ohhhhh! i especially love it when Hugh does it!
I just watched my Into The Woods dvd for the first time, and I gotta pick No one Is Alone. Wow, talk about killer.
And Finale B from RENT of course.
Once Upon a Time from Brooklyn.

Sweeney Todd- the entire production
But now that I think about it, pretty much everything with great harmonies and/or intensity will give me chills or leave me bawling.
