Gotta say I was unimpressed by the urchins the night I saw them. Lots of straining, not much real power or resonance and the harmonies could have been tighter. They certainly didn't compare to other trios of urchins I've heard elsewhere (including the original off-Broadway run).
The Dynamites are terrific in "Welcome to the 60's," but they unfortunately don't have a lot more to do in the show.
I think the Radio wins hands down. Individually and collectively, those are three of the best singers on any stage at the moment. I've seen and admired all of them separately for years (I even bought Marva Hicks solo album back in the 80's) and together they damn near blew the roof off of the Public Theatre (they're a little less impressive at the O'Neill because, at least the last time I was there, the sound mix was off -- sounding a bit muddy and muted for everyone other than Pinkins). Also, the music they have to sing is far more harmonically complex than anything in the other two shows and the three handle the demands with aplomb and make it sound easy. Their harmonies are tight, rich, flawless and powerful. A truly amazing trio of singers.
