There is a student in my english classes whose mother is a producer on Passing Strange. So of course he has seen it and likes it and thinks its the greatest new musical out there. He got my literature teacher who runs his own theatre company and is a director a pair of tickets for him and his partner. He says that he hates musicals but he walked out of Passing Strange and loved it. He talked about how it won the Drama Desk Award for Best Musical and the Critics Circle award for Best Musical as well.
That got me thinking. Between Passing Strange and In The Heights. Which show do you think has the better chance of winning Best Musical and why?
I think it will go to In The Heights because it is a safe bet. A simple book musical with a new score to the Broadway stage.
In the Heights, no doubt.

In The Heights for sure
In The Heights! It has it in the bag I think

In the Heights has the greatest commercial potential.
Passing Strange has the artsy vote.
I'll vote for Passing Strange, but In the Heights will win.

In the Heights will be the winner.
IN THE HEIGHTS has it in the bag, and with this year's crop of nominees, it deserves to win as well.

They are both awesome but the choice is obvious.
In the Heights
Passing Strange SHOULD win, but from what I hear, In The Heights WILL win.
I'm with yankeefan, my vote would go for Passing Strange, but In The Heights seems like the more realistic winner.

Both IN THE HEIGHTS and PASSING STRANGE are worthy. I will be pleased either way.
Unlike last year.

"In The Heights" !!! I just think, overall, its a better show.
Yankee, maybe PLAYBILL.COM will "leak" the winners 10 minutes before the end of the LIVE TONY broadcast!?
XANADU
i want In the Heights to win SO FRIGGIN' BAD! i love that show!
IN THE HEIGHTS!
IN THE HEIGHTS
I want Passing Strange to win more than anything in the world. I feel like if this wins best musical, it could really catch on. In The Heights just needs the performance and a few other awards to really build in a larger audience.
Of course this isn't a reason for Passing Strange to win, but it is also just a better show. I do hope Lin gets some love though.
I thought IN THE HEIGHTS had it in the bag, but this whole Cubby Bernstein campaign could prove to have a huge impact on results. I mean, I would find myself to vote for Xanadu, if only because of the effort they put into this campaign.
However, I have seen Xanadu, Passing Strange, and In the Heights, and enjoyed In the Heights and Passing Strange more than Xanadu.
I really can't pick a winner between In the Heights and Passing Strange, though I believe In the Heights will win.
I dunno...
I truly, truly, truly feel that Cubby'll work his magic (yet again) this year. You can all sing the praises with the masses, I'm with the varied few in believing "YES WE CAN!"
XANADU has no chance of winning. Not at this point. It's going to need more than a clever campaign to win. AVENUE Q was WICKED's toughest competition so a smart campaign (and a few lies about touring..no comment...) got it a win but XANADU is third in terms of chances of winning. 1) ITH 2) PS 3) XANADU 4) C-B
It's really a non-factor at this point, IMO. And for the record, I enjoyed the show very much (it's the most fun you'll have on Broadway right now) but it's just not worthy of the title of 'Best Musical of the Year' because...well, it's not. (Not that that's stopped Spamalot, Millie and multiple other shows that weren't the best musicals of the year to win but those are totally different circumstances.)

I'm thinking In the Heights.

I figured there would be a major upset if Passing Strange didn't win because it obviously got the best reviews of the season, but after watching some clips of In The Heights, I could totally see how it would win. It has a pretty catchy score, and from the clips looks like a fun show.
The "tour" voters are over rated, but XANADU would be their choice because PASSING STRANGE can't tour and Middle America will say "What exactly are 'THE HEIGHTS' and where are they?
And everyone in America knows OLIVIA NEWTRON JOHN.
