Posted: 6/7/09 at 11:41pmI just hope not "9 to 5". I am ready for that OBCR!

Posted: 6/7/09 at 11:41pm^ Their number actually convinced me that I should see the show, if only for the riot that is Mary Testa. But yes, I agree with you. I also think "9 to 5" won't make it past September. I love Alison, but it just doesn't deserve to.

Posted: 6/7/09 at 11:41pmJust talking musicals, yeah, Guys & Dolls first. Next will likely be Shrek & Rock of Ages. The rest should have nice, healthy runs.

Guys and Dolls and Next to Normal
though I doubt it

reasons to be pretty would probably be the first to go because of lack of Tonys.
I imagine GUYS & DOLLS will stay open through Lauren Graham's stay.

Posted: 6/7/09 at 11:42pmGuys and Dolls. ROA has an audience, I wouldn't worry about a closing.

Posted: 6/7/09 at 11:43pmYes, "Shrek" as well. It was quite clear that nobody in the audience - read: the Broadway community - were enjoying themselves.

Posted: 6/7/09 at 11:46pmNot only does ROCK OF AGES have an established audience but even if they didn't win, I thought they had one of the best numbers in the show. They were pretty fantastic.

Rock of Ages isn't going anywhere for a while!!! It wasn't a great performance but it was fun!
Like all have said, Guys and Dolls. That was the awful!!
re: Which shows will close first because of poor showing at Tony's?#12
Posted: 6/7/09 at 11:48pmSHREK has been doing hit and miss business. I mean, they're trying. It's not an awful show, but why on earth would you make that your Tony performance? You're nominated for BEST SCORE, why pick that number? It's awful. I didn't laugh once. They should have sung "Who I'd Be" (To show it does have some legit musical theater moments) and went into "Freak Flag" to show that it is fun.

Of course it "deserves" to.

Posted: 6/7/09 at 11:49pmThe non-theater person was probably intrigued, but RoA's performance made me SURE that I do not want to see it, and wouldn't be missing a thing.

I have to disagree. I say that your statement best applied (IMO) to Rock Of Ages. I thought that if Andrew Lloyd Webber saw that show or other Broadway "legends", they'd have aneurysms. I feel that it is too out-of-control nonsense to be called a "Broadway musical".

Candace, yes I did. Hilarious, although I am sure she will not be happy to see herself not clapping if she goes home and watches the ceremony.
Jacob, I also agree that "Rock of Ages" was not particularly well-received, but as Candace pointed out, not a lot of happy faces for "Shrek."

Posted: 6/8/09 at 12:20amI hate when people say "Oh, I disliked this show so it should close." What?! We're talking about what shows will close because of a poor showing at the Tonys, not your opinion.
