I thought it was whoever performed the role on opening night.

The producers and director, sometimes the authors (particularly in the case of cast recordings).

There aren't THAT many "kids" that do the press conferences and such..but in the case of Billy Elliot...I wouldn't be suprised if the all did the press gigs when available.

But the rest is up to the schedule and the discretion of the director and producers.

I remember posting a thread asking about child actors on cast recordings. The answer that I got was that for some recordings ( I can't think of any specific ones off the top of my head) they rotate and have some record some songs and the other record other songs.

I think for opening night considering that they have a rotation of who goes on when my guess is that it would be whoever is up in the rotation. I don't know for sure but that is my guess.

The slot is awarded to the child with the least annoying stage parents.

This is show business. They should be letting the best performer sing the songs for the cast recordings if there is a multiple cast.

"who cares"

The person who made this thread. At least it isn't an annoying sock puppet thread.

I assume it is the producers, director, etc. that make these decisions. In terms of stage time, for opening night, I have a feeling winston is correct and the child who appears opening night is the one who would normally appear on that night. With cast recordings, I know they have done rotations with the children on the songs. For La Boheme, they did this with each of the three performing couples (who weren't children, but still, semi-related).

Did Harrison Chad perform most of the time in Caroline, Or Change, or did he alternate regularly with his standby?

It is typically the director and producer who decides who goes on when.

On Cast Recordings it is typically the producer and the producer of the recording

TARZAN is one example of a OCR that has different kids singing different tracks
