I based some of my predictions on word of mouth. I havent seen that many shows this year...sorry. I'll catch up over the summer. Updated On: 5/17/06 at 04:06 PM
"Jersey Boys is a good show, but i still can't get over the fact it is a juke box."
You have a hard time getting over the fact that a quality musical takes songs previously written for a different genre and cleverly weaves them together creating a musical ubt yet, you think a mediocore show that was tweaked from an already written movie deserves the award over it?
"I don't wanna see that!" -Aunt Sassy (as played by Valerie Cherish) on Room & Bored
"People have their opinions and that doesn't mean that their opinions are wrong or right. I just take it with a grain of salt because opinions are like as*holes, everyone has one".
-Felicia Finley-
Well, Jersey Boys is a good show i think, but it doesn't have an original score and it has almost no dancing in it. It was a fun show though, i guess i am just skeptical because I don't really want a juke box musical to win a Tony.

Oh, and i don't find TCP not appealing, i mean...i wanted to see it when it came out because i think the movie is a masterpiece, the musical is just ok. I don't know, i am no one to tell you to go or not to go, follow your heart.

It's all a matter of opinion, and this is what sucks about it.
I think JB should win Best Musical, Drowsy should take best book, Wedding Singer should take best score (in my humble opinion, Drowsy has about two great songs, and that's all). JLY should win for Best Actor.
I definitely agree with the doubt about Color Purple winning. I think it's Drowsy and JB in a tight lock. One will probably take best book, and one will go home with best musical.
Jersey Boys might be a jukebox musical, yet it is a very well-crafted show, the direction is flawless, it has what I believe is the most concise book of any new show this season, the cast is superb across the board, and the songs are so perfectly intertwined with the book that it feels more like a play with music about the Four Seasons than a jukebox musical. And muscle, again, I am trying to respect your taste and opinion but you said that The Wedding Singer and The Pajama Game are in the same category because they're both fluff...they're not. Like WithoutATrace remarked, The Pajama Game is a classic with music, characters, and numbers ("Hernando's Hideaway" and "Steam Heat" come to mind) that have stayed in the collective memory of theater-goers for decades. The Wedding Singer is one of those shows people will forget about in a couple of years, yes both of them are escapist Broadway musicals, the difference is one of them is actually memorable.

Best Lighting Design of a Musical Should: TARZAN Will: THE COLOR PURPLE
I am only going to talk about the musical nominations, because I didn't see that many plays this year, other than Barefoot in the Park.
BEST MUSICAL Should Win: Jersey Boys Will Win: Jersey Boys or Drowsy Chaperone
I have never seen the audience react to a show the way Jersey Boys it does to this show. The audience response stops the show five or six times NIGHTLY. The performances are phenomenal. That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if Drowsy Chaperone wins the top prize, either.
BEST REVIVAL OF A MUSICAL: Should Win: Sweeney Todd Will Win: Sweeney Todd
While Pajama Game was good fun and a good show, it just isn't in the same league with Sweeney Todd. Again, brilliant cast, brillant scoring, brilliant staging, brilliant show.
BEST ACTRESS in a MUSICAL Should win: Patti Lupone Will win: Patti Lupone, though Kelli O'Hara is a close second.
BEST ACTOR in a MUSICAL Should Win: Michael Cerveris or John Lloyd Young. Will win: Michael Cerveris or John Lloyd Young.
This is probably the toughest category to predict. All are good, though I'm still wondering why Stephen Lynch was nominated. I think it will come down to Cerveris or Young.
FEATURED ACTRESS in a MUSICAL Should Win: Megan Lawrence Will win: Megan Lawrence
Lawrence pretty much stole every scene in The Pajama Game that she was in. Her comic timing was impeccable. That being said, if Lauren Molina had been nominated, she would win.
FEATURED ACTOR in a MUSICAL Should win: Manoel Felciano Will win: Manoel Felciano
Loved Christian Hoff in Jersey Boys, but my bet is on Felciano. His performance was haunting and, aside from the two leads, was the one from Sweeney I most noticed.
Woman in White deserving best score? What a joke. Maybe Laura Benanti will win actress too. And Lestat will win best musical. I believe my heart. Rediculous.
