We all relate to Man in Chair, but of the "characters" in THE DROWSY CHAPERONE, who is your favorite, and why?
Mine is Kitty. Jennifer Smith just totally hams it up and has so much fun with her! My favorite part is during Toledo Surprise when she says,
Back up dancers? Holy cats!
Then goes on to do her rendition of Toledo Surprise ending with,
Sugary yum yum
(pause)
Surprise!
It gets me laughing every time I listen to it.
WOOHOO DROWSY! Who's your fav?
Kitty annoys the hell out of me. So does Alolpho. So does that guy in your avatar. And Eddie Korbich. And the Tall Brothers.
I love the title character. She makes the show.
Adolpho.
CAT IN PAYAMAS?
Didn't much like the show, but Jennifer Smith had the one line that did make me laugh. The bit about "Think of a number between 5 and 7".
I can always count on you for your honesty, munky!
oh god. i love janet, adolpho, and the drowsy chaperone....but i also love the pastry chefs. i kept expecting them to burst into "brush up your shakespeare" haha because they were just like the 2 guys in Kiss Me Kate lol
Adolpho is too funny.
Janet...
"I don't wanna change keys no more..."
First of all, just a pet peeve, it's Aldolpho, people always seem to leave out the "l." I think that's due to the fact that the track list had the mistake on it. Just like Wicked and freaking "As Long as Your Mine." Blah.
Anyway, the title character fo' sho'. She's just so...drowsy.
The title character.
Janet hands down!!

Mrs Tottendale!!!!
love love love love love
The title character does it for me! However, the service guy that comes in at the end to check on "man in chair's" electric..and they share a moment about their secret love of musicals,,,ummm...he's a favorite because I think there's a spark there...something...perhaps in the sequel there will be another "gay wedding"????
My favorite actor in the show is Georgia Engel. I just adore her!
Aww, sondheimfan2, I love that moment! It's so sweet after the whole show not seeing Man in Chair interact with any other person but the audience. Then that repairman just arrives and the exchange is so basic and simple and just sincerely funny.
Definetly the Chaperone. Beth Leavel is a riot and every bit deserved that Tony.
Oh please! The Drowsy Chaperone of course.
I am impressed that Troy is able to pull off that "old-fashioned" actor voice flawlessly. But my favorite character is the chaperone. I also love Underling!!!!!

Wanna Be...I agree with you, it's a terrific moment and helps to elevate the show to the status it deserves (alas, it should have won the Tony!). Maybe I'm projecting here...I think there might be a little more in that exchange than meets the eye.
I loved Aldopho, but Mrs. Tottendale and Underling are close behind along with the Producer. The whole show was hilarious! I can't wait to see it again!

Aldopho and The Chaperone.
Aldolpho and the Chaperone - the "I am Aldolpho" number was just sensational between the two of them.
I do love Tottendale though, adorable. And the "pastry chefs"! BUT my first two answers win for me.
Aldolpho/Roman Bartelli
Janet, Drowsy Chaperone and Aldolpho. Beth Leavel and Danny Burstein are so freakin hilarious together
