To all those attending, enjoy every single second of it. Looking forward to reading all your experiences. Thinking of laying off instagram for today cause I can't see any more sadness.

HA! Same, unfortunately, except I will also be listening to GC and putting that 360 video on repeat all night and sobbing. It's all so sad....

I second this statement so much. I can't wait to hear everything and it breaks my heart to not be able to be there this afternoon. I hope that Dave gets a huge standing ovation on his entrance. The man deserves it.

I'm in Rear Mezz Center Row F with my kids (controversial, I know!), husband, twin sister and her husband.
I don't share much on the boards, but thought I'd share what makes this show so special to me.
My mother is 100% Russian and her side of the family still keeps a lot of the fun, wild and beautiful traditions and cultural aspects. And while I'm not that big of a religious person, I was raised in a Russian Orthodox Church and learned to read Slavonic and we even have an old typewriter from my grandfather that's Cyrillic letters.
Anyway, I stumbled upon the show by chance when it was in the tent at Kazino, and was sat underneath an icon of the Saint I had been named for. And was looking around in awe at a place that looked like my church fair and some of the places I had been to, reading the menu coaxing my friends into trying some stuff.
Very little in theatre will compare to the experience I had that day, and being a college student I could only afford to go once and was devastated when it closed, thinking I'd never see it again.
Flash forward to the first preview on Broadway, where sat in the rush line from 3 am, and was walking into the theatre (in my final year as a student majoring in set design) wondering if they could really do it. If they could live up to that first experience in the tent. And they did. I've taken my family, church friends, out of town friends and school friends to that show to show them that Broadway isn't just jazz hand tap numbers or a melodramatic opera. I love this show so much, and it has helped me personally as well.
I will be there tonight in the front mezz E8 to the side! To everyone who will be there today, I can't wait to give this show a final hurrah!

Other than seeing the production one more/last time, or simply being able to say I was there, what is "so special" about being at a Closing Night performance?

Usually the audience is full of family and friends so the energy is really amazing and the actors (from my experience) have been far more emotional and really went the extra mile in every scene. Very special indeed.

Woof. That Dust and Ashes. Well deserved standing ovation for Dave.
Also pre show applause for Rachel Chavkin and Sam Pinkleton when they took their seats.

Paul Pinto came out for bows as a clean shaven Balaga. What a difference. What an afternoon. Huge standing ovation during The Abduction. Dave and Denee's emotions during the last two numbers were overwhelming.

Josh Groban was there but kept a low profile.

Indeed he did. I was looking for him before the show (just curious, wasn't going to bother him) and during intermission when I finally spotted him just a couple seats away in the same row as me.
So sweet of him to go! From the Instagram it looks like the cast had a post show party. Sounds like they went out with a bang.

The show didn't get out until about 5:55, but I have no doubt they will be partying together tonight. Brittain Ashford was supposed to have her 54 Below show tonight but it got moved when closing was announced.

Any special speeches or unique moments throughout? Russian custom? Goodbye my gypsy lover?

There was a speech by Rachael, and everyone came on stage and hugged. Quick question was josh the one in the blue suit? I couldn't tell if tjay was him or not from where I was sitting.

I found a video of the speech already! Glad to be able to see it even though I couldn't be there.
