I was in F 10 and there was a man with two kids to my right. Was that by chance you? If I'd seen this post before I would have said hello!
It was just such a glorious performance all around. One day I will sit in a rocking chair telling my hypothetical grandchildren about the final performance of Great Comet on Broadway.
At one point during Balaga I seriously thought the cast and the audience were going to descend into racous, rapturous chaos.
I've seen Scott and Josh deliver that final speech to Natasha and it's always been a moving moment, but everything about the way Dave delivered it tonight was heart-wrenching. It was my first time seeing him so I don't know if that's how he delivers it or if it was the heightened emotion of the final performance, but I don't think I've ever been moved so deeply by a performance.
I really wanted to stay for the stage door, but I had an 8pm flight out of Laguardia. I hope it was the joyous pandemonium it deserved to be.
Was Cynthia Erivo there?
I tried the stagedoor briefly but it looked like a madhouse. Members of the crew came out and threw egg shakers at the crowd. It was so crowded I couldn't see anything or anyone so I left.

Yes, I think that was us! My husband was sitting on the aisle, daughter, table, son, and me. Were you across the aisle from him?
Thanks for all the recaps guys, those were absolutely lovely to read. It's so wonderful to see a company who seems to so genuinely love their show and each other. I hope that all of them become Bway mainstays and have long and fruitful careers!

I couldn't find a ticket to the final performance, so I settled for a banquette seat for the Wednesday matinee instead. After Wednesday's performance, I stopped by the box office to see if any tickets to the final performance opened up. They had a stage left box seat left - and I grabbed it.
I'm so glad I made that impulsive decision, because my God, what a performance. The crowd was electric from the start. The others in my box were related to two of the ensemble members, and it was wonderful to see how proud they were to be there.
The moment Dave Malloy entered with the accordion was honestly magical. The standing ovation went on for so long, and I could see all the cast members getting emotional. The applauses kept coming throughout - every character intro during "Prologue" got applauses, "Charming" had three different applause breaks, and Lucas Steele and Grace McLean had mid-song applauses as well. The pause after Pierre's "WHOOAAAA" during "The Abduction" was wild. I really thought the theater would cave in from the cheers.
Even though our view was frequently obstructed with performers running up and down the stairs to the mezz, I really loved my box seat. It was the perfect midway point between being immersed in the show and getting a good overall look. I finally got to see all the awesome mezz action (especially that haunting choir during "Dust and Ashes" and our box got some extra love from the cast (I got a pierogi and a love letter, Katrina Yaukey leaned into the box to make out with her guest during "The Duel," and Ashley Perez Flanagan held hands with her mom during the final number).
Other special moments from the show:
- Blaine Alden Krauss was a wonderful Andrey/Bolkonsky. So glad I got to catch him in the role.
- Grace McLean came up to our box during the "Duel" in her leather catsuit and shook her butt in my face. It was incredible.
- Dave missing the cowbell during "The Abduction" was the best laugh of the night. He looked so confused by his own mistake, lol.
- Denee and Dave both sounded like they were choking back sobs during their final numbers. Dave crying as his face was illuminated by the comet was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.
- I had a great view of Rachel Chavkin watching the show. The Natasha/Princess Mary moment happened at her table and she seemed to be having a great time. The moment Dave started his part in "Pierre & Natasha," she started crying.
- Lucas held that "Abduction" note for a million years. The crowd went crazy, and when they stopped, he motioned for them to continue, ha. Him leading the audience to sing along to the "Goodbye, gypsy lovers" part was a wonderful moment.
I could honestly go on and on. It was just pure magic from start to finish. I'm still heartbroken over the closing, but I'm glad they got to go out on a blaze.
I just relistened to Rachel Chavkin's speech. I love the part where she says "It's theater, it comes and goes." And her ending her speech by asking the audience to support "new works." What a classy speech. With that being said she was sobbing throughout the speech. Obviously this has been a very painful couple of weeks for the Comet family, but their professionalism and the love they showed the audience was amazing. They deserved every screaming ovation they got yesterday. What a talented, lovely group of people.

Yes, they seated her next to Joey Cassata.
I went to the stage door. It was indeed a madhouse but people were helping each other pass playbills forward, etc. Several times, the crowd broke into song (goodbye my gypsy lovers) and several cast hung out the windows from above filming it.
Dave Malloy had also shaved by the time he got outside.
They announced Josh Groban was in the house, but wasn't coming out so he had signed some posters and were selling them for $100 for BCEFA. Didn't see too many people buying those (but some had bought unsigned posters earlier for $40). Then much to everyone's screaming delight, Groban appeared and started signing.
Right before Grace McLean left the line, she screamed out "Anatole Kuragin" in her Marya D voice (Lucas was further down the line) and the crowd went wild. He grinned widely.
OK, back home after my 4 or 5 show weekend (depending how you count). Comet was pretty lit, since I was in the front row sunken tavern right behind Pierre most of the time. Dave sang "hours at my screen" right in my face, and just so much interaction there. When Lucas did a quick spin nearly me, and whipped his head around, he locked eyes with me until he had to finish up the spin. Got a piroshki, letter, and shaker in that seat. Pretty magical day. I skipped the stagedoor, though, since I only had about 90 minutes until Groundhog Day...

Did anyone catch what Balaga screamed when he normally would yell "That's my song?" It sounded like he said something different but it was hard to tell.

I had that scene with Scott. I saw him at the stage door and he told me he'd recognize my beard anywhere and talked to me a bit. Also lots of talk with Paul before the show and during Prologue. In a banquette at another show I almost got punched in the face by Blaine and several others with their overly enthusiastic dancing

"Sing it baby" (matches my recollection and someone else also posted that wording)

I didn't catch that because my head was spinning in a million directions during Balaga.
But this post reminded me of another funny moment yesterday - during the interaction where Bolkonsky looks Natasha from head to toe, Nick Belton always mumbled "not in my house" as he headed back to his chair. I was sitting in the banquette aisle seat right next to where he stands, and Blaine said "you smell like onions" instead
Also, at the Saturday matinee, his Bolkonsky wig fell off when he was right behind me (I was at the center tables that time) and I heard him say "****" as he hunched over trying to put it back on. I was cracking up.

Sad to see it closing. I think it was the best theater experience I have ever had. I feel privileged to be able to say I saw it. Thank you to all those performers who left me with a lasting memory. :)
