The same way Laura Linney can host "Downton Abbey" without getting anywhere near Highclere Castle.
It's not a live telecast, despite the title "Live from Lincoln Center."

I took it as her hosting the actual event, in front of the audience. I misunderstood.

I'm not saying its Audra. But they could certainly film the interviews and "hosting" material in between performances on Saturday. And yes, its not being aired live. I'm just saying its possible. It could be anybody really. Betty Buckley was apparently at the Mary Chapin Carpenter thing the other night...

The Piazza and South Pacific telecasts were actually live, weren't they? I remember us being under the impression they were live at the time.

I have a feeling they went into this knowing they were filming (hence the apprenticeship posting I linked earlier), but possibly didn't know how it would be released. My question is... Does a Live at Lincoln Center broadcast preclude the option for a one night in theaters release or an eventual bluray release? I can't think of any other Live at Lincoln Center broadcasts that have been released... Passion, Carousel, South Pacific, Piazza, etc... ;(

I know someone who was at the dress rehearsal this afternoon, and Audra is indeed playing the Beggar Woman. And reports are true that she won't be doing all five shows. No info on which show/shows she won't be performing in.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

Really? I understand why Audra did this in 2000, but in 2014? Isn't she too big a star for this role? And no matter what they do with makeup/costumes, won't she be instantly recognizable to the audience by her voice?

I'm sure Audra jumped at the chance to work with Emma Thompson. It has nothing to do with the role.

Is Patti there? What color apron is she wearing?

Wouldn't that require a waiver from Equity or something? Just curious...

I've heard Saturday is the day Audra (assuming she is indeed the "surprise" person) won't be performing. That seems odd, since it's when the show is supposedly being recorded, but it makes sense since the bits that Audra hosts for PBS aren't pre-taped and are done concurrently with the performance being filmed.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

Aw. Saturday night is the show I'm attending. That makes me sad! I can't look at this thread now until I see it! These next two days are going to DRAG! I hope everyone who goes has a wonderful time!

If it's Audra, I just don't get the need to make it a surprise. She's already done it, it's documented on a full length recording. Now if this was Patti or Bernadette, the speculation and surprise would have been thrilling.

I wouldn't like to be the one to tell Patti she's playing the Beggar Woman this time.

The good news is that Saturday it's Melanie Griffith.

Maybe they will move the taping earlier in the run... or maybe they thought it awkward to have her in the show and hosting it "live" and she won't be in the taping. If so, maybe she is on tonight...
I too am going Sat. night.

It was indeed Audra. The 'concept' of this concert was somewhat surprising.
