Someone did actually post that here a couple of weeks ago.

The only question now is whether or not HOAHB will close before the nominations even are announced.

Considering that they are likely to not be in the same category, your point is?

Words don't deserve that kind of malarkey. They're innocent, neutral, precise, standing for this, describing that, meaning the other, so if you look after them you can build bridges across incomprehension and chaos. But when they get their corners knocked off, they're no good anymore…I don't think writers are sacred, but words are. They deserve respect. If you get the right ones in the right order, you can nudge the world a little.

I realize that we don't know yet if Cinderella is going to be classified as new or as a revival.

My point was that a couple of weeks ago, someone here posted that they thought that Hardbody was going to edge out Cinderella for the fourth Best New Musical nomination, and I think it's pretty clear that ain't gonna happen, assuming Cinderella is classified as new.

I posted the link to that rule weeks ago. But:

TONY COMMITTEE RULES, TONY COMMITTEE RULES, TONY COMMITTEE RULES.

We won't know for sure until they make their decision.

I would guess the R&H estate thinks it's a classic. They license three different stage versions already and claim the first stage production was in 1958.

From the R&H website:

Stage productions of CINDERELLA continue to thrive as well, including an acclaimed version presented by the New York City Opera in 1993, 1995, and 2003. In the Fall of 2000 Rodgers & Hammerstein's CINDERELLA stepped down from the screen and onto the stage once again in an enchanting revival on U.S. National Tour, starring Eartha Kitt as The Fairy Godmother.

...CINDERELLA remains one of the most popularly performed musicals: more than 250 productions of Rodgers & Hammerstein's CINDERELLA are presented in the United States every year.
