Posted: 6/7/05 at 1:03pmHow about either Mario Cantone or Whoopi? Both of them know how to work a room. Would love Martin Short also, he could squeeze in a little Jiminy Glick in.

Posted: 6/7/05 at 1:11pmI think Ellen should host the Oscars...not the Tonys. I think she is one of the greatest comedians of all time, but I don't see her as knowing much about Broadway or being a fan of Broadway?

Tom Cruise
Imagine the rating. People would tuned in just to see if he would have a mental breakdown.

Langella is good but too serious.
How about John and Norber Butz?

This is a toughie.
Cause you have to have someone with a name that attracts the non-broadway crowd, unfortunately.
And you want someone with a good energy but still well poised, etc.
Oy vey.
Well, the Rent movie will have been out by then and if it does well, they may want to ask someoen like Taye, although he doesn't seem to be all that "funny" in person but I dunno...
cheno seems like a good idea but...I dunno, it seems like the show would run her, she wouldn't run it, if that makes sense.
There's just like, such a difference between people like Robin Williams for instance or Whoopi or Rosie or Billy - where they take the show wherever they're feelin it kind of and are just themselves and charming and entertaining - and other people (me for example, lol) who could never let that last guard down so the whole thing is very scripted, although they're trying.
I'm gonna keep thinkin' on this and come back with a fabulous answer, damn it, lol.

I'm not sure when The Producers movie is set to be released, but Nathan and Matthew would make nice co-hosts.
I think Hugh Jackman has run his course as host. He's an excellent performer, but -- in my opinion -- just doesn't have "it" like Billy Crystal and other excellent hosts have. Plus, Hugh has garnared two of the lowest Tony ratings ever.

Posted: 6/7/05 at 2:42pmI didn't watch the first 9 awards online. If ayone did, did they have a skit with Lucy the Slut and Trekkie Monster? There was a really funny skit during the rehearsal (Lucy did some mighty obscene things with the microphone), and it was not on the CBS broadcast. I'm wondering if they cut it for time and/or censorship?

There wasn't a skit that I saw, but there might've been. I was tuned in pretty early.
I don't like Kristin Chenoweth as a hostess. It just seems really wrong. Yes, she's extremely charismatic, but she's just so bubbly. But wouldn't her entrance be cool if she came down in a bubble?
Sherie Rene Scott seems like a good idea, but she's not really a host-like character. She's extremely witty and comical, but there are other traits that a host should have.
Hugh Jackman makes a great host. He's charismatic and he attracts a non-Broadway crowd, however, he's been milked for all he's worth. (Three years? C'mon.)
Billy Crystal would make a great host. But due to his cameo appearance this year, it might not work out. But if he were to host it next year, he could say something like, "Well, now that Hugh isn't here, unfortunately..." or something along the lines of making fun of Hugh's 3-year reign.
I dunno. I really can't think of any good people. I think people like Rosie, Robin Williams, Bernadette, and etc. would all make fine choices, but I'll leave it up to CBS to decide and rant and rave over it later.
