It does suggest that should there be a change in leadership the Tonys on CBS could be endangered.

I think so but it might have much higher live +7 ratings than overnight from those who dvr just for Hamilton related stuff

Back in the day, it was probably more in jeopardy when broadcast network ratings were much higher. Now, it's unlikely CBS would do any better on a Sunday in June. Plus with today's thousands of choices TV climate, even if it were dropped for some reason, it would be scooped up somewhere else quickly.

It would be nice to see it with fewer commercial breaks. That way maybe performances could be longer and we could actually see ya know, the awards being given!
But that is a pipe dream.

I think it'd be great to see performances from the nominated plays. Why not put together a 5min scene and showcase the show?

on a sunday night in the summer, a network will broadcast anything. the Tonys are substantially better than anything. They ain't goin nowhere.
ABC is treating us to Alec Baldwin hosting Match Game for heaven's sake.

They have in the past, but I think it's just difficult to cut a scene down to five minutes and make sure it makes sense out of context. Plays always get a short shrift on the Tonys, but I don't know if having awkwardly cut scenes is the answer either.

I love that they air on CBS. My dream is for the red carpet to get national coverage on CBS pre show or on a network like E!. Instead, I'll just stream it on my computer again and hook it up to my tv lol.

My thinking is that when you take an acting class or audition, they use a scene. So why not use a scene? I guess I get it. I just wish they had more "live" performances from the plays as seeing it taped is not as exciting.

I know they frequently don't show all those technical awards on TV and have stopped even showing Best Score and Book and all that, but like...I want to see Lin win those awards this year. Will they show them? Is there some other way to watch all of the categories like with a stream online?

I recall that they definitely showed Best Score being received by Cyndi Lauper a few years ago. Someone here speculated that with names like Sara Bareilles and Steve Martin (and of course the front runner Lin) that they'll show it for sure.

Maybe as a rerun, but not live. Bravo is a cable channel so it would make the Tonys less accessible to people.

No, they do not stream the awards given out during commercial breaks. Sorry. Also, they have not "stopped" showing categories like Best Score or Best Book. They will just usually skip airing those categories unless high-profile names are nominated, which was the case in 2013 (Cyndi Lauper) and will probably be again this year (Bareilles, Martin).
